League One the average was 20,254 so 63% capacity in a 32000 seater stadium, add 8000, to make it it 40000, that drops to around 50%.

Championship the average was 24,990 when we won the league  77% in a 40000 it would be 62%

Depend on how may are along for the PL ride.

I was talking about the future not the past, I meant too write find "ourselves" in the championship and it will be half empty not "ours". It was a typo.

Hence the 'it will be" future tense not "is was" past tense

Relax sweetie.......

That's good confirmation that it wouldn't have been half empty in the Championship even if we had 40,000 seats back then. Given our increased fan base since then it's hardly likely to be 'half empty' should the club return to those depths.

Which is why 40k is the most sensible increase to aim for.

We had a terrible pricing structure in the Championship and didn’t really do much to advertise either

If we’d pushed hard and had lots of promotions we could have averaged 26/27 k like Derby did back when they had free tickets for buying a phone etc

Even in the Championship our support numbers were reasonably decent where, iirc, we averaged around 23,000 to 26,000 and even in League 1 it was over 20,000.

So if relegation did come 20-23K in a stadium of 40K would be pretty awful. But, of course, it is all hypothetical as the 'r' word is no longer in our vocabulary.

No sure we should be following Derby lead.

They have just gone bust.

Yes no way FA Cup winners ever get relegated.

Portsmouth, Wigan

Or PL winners

Blackburn

We'll never get relegated while Top is around. I firmly believe that and he could easily be chairman for another 30 years.

Sooner that than 40k people wanting to go to a Stadium that holds 32k .

Also the club can be creative on how they sell the tickets . Don't sell the top few rows and Banners covering the corners can make a low attended game seem quite full .

Don't be afraid of empty seats !

But if you go down you've still got the infrastructure in place for when you return. I'd sooner build sensibly for where we are now than hold back just incase. It's time we expanded because the demand is there. There's a generation of young city fans that can't get to games regularly and that needs to change

In regards to not selling out, all it takes is the return of fan fixtures or something similar for games against lesser sides and we're well on our way. At the moment we could sell our ground out without away fans. Even if we don't sell out, Isn't it better to have 38k turn up to a stadium that holds 40k rather than 6k miss out at the moment. I'm sure we all know fans that want to go more often but can't.

As for the young not being able to get to games if the Club don't sort my mobility scooter out soon nor will I.:D

Your top 6 guarantees sell outs

Your Everton’s and West Ham etc will probably be around 35,000 to 37,000

Your Burnley’s and C palace’s I would say in the region of 34,000 with the increase in ST sales, that’s my guess anyway

I think we also need to account for the fact that the last few seasons have been some of the best in our history, if this drops off for whatever reason then the demand does as well.

Yes of course - wouldn’t disagree with that

I still think 40k is sustainable in the Prem though - although as I said, with the caveat that not every game will sell out

One of our highest averages  if not the highest waswhen relegated  in the late fifties  reasonable prices are the key

Not that it really matters to the general argument but I have read a few posts whereby away allocations are based on the current ground capacity.

Won't the away allocations also increase with our capacity to meet the %quota enforced by the Premier League? If so, that's going to temper, slightly, the amount of expansion tickets that will go to City fans. Just a thought.
