Should Mendy stay?

Kante showed us today that we do need a workhorse in our midfield. 

Clearly Soumare not it and N'didi is far from his previous form.

Man Utd got Fred

Chelsea got Kante 

Liverpool got Keita

As much as we are keep blaming our defenders all the time, the real problem lays within them not having any support front them.

I think I've preferred Mendy to Soumare from what I've seen.

I like Mendy, he has been great for us.  I still cannot get my head around us losing Praet and now Mandy and keeping Hamza? Brendan is not managing some players well at all!

The thing is, every great team should have two players in every position. 

 

Our defensive midfielder position is covered by Ndidi who, despite a recent dip in form, is easily good enough.  He has Soumare, Mendy and Choudhury for back up.  Soumare should be good enough. Mendy can easily do a job there too.

 

As a central attacking, creative midfielder we have Maddison backed up by Perez and maybe even Iheanacho.

 

Our biggest problem is that box to box midfielder.  When Tielemans doesn't play, there is no straightforward option.  Who comes in? KDH?  

 

Praet was the one we should have bent over backwards to keep.

People weren't moaning about Soumare when he bossed it against Spartak Moscow.

 

Mendy is no better than anyone else we currently have in midfield.

An alternative to Tielemans is what we’re crying out for and no that isn’t Praet.

Mendy is far better than people seem to realise. Far better than Choudhury (I know the benefits of having Hamza around) and he's clearly better than Soumare so far.

Quick reminder though.

People raining down praises for the Mendy in the beginning of last season. Where he played a pivotal role in the absence of N'didi and we've had a cracking start for the last season.

Comparing him to Kante is weird, other than being small and french they are completely different players and have no comparable attributes.

Problem is...

Mendy is NOT a workhorse.

It’s easy to compare them. Ones world class, the other is crap.
