I think a good general rule is that if the justification for a signing includes the phrase "if we can keep him fit" or similar, it's probably not a good idea

Bamford is not going to be paid a big wage you’d have to imagine. Purely as a backup in case our main striker gets hurt so we aren’t reliant on Patson Spaka or a 16 year old if we can do it for fairly cheap on a one year rental why not
