Anyone know where this was taken? Someone said the other day they were surpised his dog wasn't part of the statue but it's definitely there in this pic.

I'm sure there was a Vichai statue put up outside KP offices in Thailand a couple years ago shortly after his death, it must be the one in the pic. They must have used the same mould, its not the same statue though, the base of the plinth is slightly different.

Oh wow, the statue's not totally unique then? No wonder it got approved and whipped up so quick, they obviously still had the jelly mould left over from the other one. I couldn't place the background behind him.

For a football club that has achieved such great things, our stadium and surrounding areas has next to nothing celebrating that.

For me that is both depressing and wrong.

Which goes back to a few things I said earlier in the thread. The banner round the top of the Walkers at least referenced our history & players. There's not even a stand named after an ex-manager, player or world cup winner. If they're going to totally ignore requests for statues (they won't want anything detracting from Vichai's plinth now) at least have a Gordon Banks South Stand? The East Stand could be the Champions stand. A meeting point outside the ground could easily be named the "Tottenham Hotspur We're Waiting For You" Meeting Point. We can only hope they try and incorporate more history into the new development but I won't hold my breath.

I agree.

Does anyone actually know if the club is willing to take suggestions, or when stuff like this can be talked about with the club?

I think it’s great to have around the club. Images, statues and hero’s of our past. Educating my son on our hero’s is so hard. I’d love us to have many monuments to celebrate times gone by.

Probably to the usual lcfchelp email address with the usual "we'll pass on your feedback" response. TBH if they're not able to consult about a singing section, they're not going to take ideas about the ground from the "customers"

Club told UFS they would knock back any statue that was fan funded.

These sorts have things have been brought up time and time again at FCC meetings and to a degree at UFS ones also. It very much feels like ‘yes yes we hear you’ but then just disregard. I do think the fact you have a very few ‘football people’ down there is one reason. They just don’t get in importance of history to supporters.

But they have a club historian that has regular features on the official LCFC channels. The club is very aware and the recent statement by the Chief Exec reinforces that. Why that hasn't manifested in physical symbolism, so far, is a mystery.

Half get the statue thing, too many and becomes weird. Probably not delivered in the right way from the club though

Really think with the development would be a great time to reach out for what's wanted in terms of design. What do we want around the stadium; from pictures to wall paintings to statues. Could be a great way to reach all demographics.

Just a thought, the Alan shearer statue sits outside the stadium grounds because of Mike Ashley, so it was a council decision. If there was ever a groundswell for fan led statues and the club said no, that may be an alternative route.

Not my preference, just for discussion.

It's crackers stand point from the club to bluntly refuse the possibility of one if the support raised the cash. I actually think they would bow to pressure if something like that ever got going.

I don't think this Vichai statue will be the floodgates from King Power to start putting up players ones. Do think if it is to happen on that front it will be the supporters/supporter groups etc.

It is what it is and ultimately, I have a lot of respect for what both Vichai and his family have done for this club. Despite that, if I am honest, I really struggle to see why they didn’t put it outside the memorial ground? It would have completed it perfectly.

I do hold some sympathy with the view that it’s about what the club have achieved. Yes, Vichai managed the club well but he wasn’t a player nor did he play a role in scouting / coaching. I would have loved to see some celebration of our history, it does frustrate me as this is something we lack - look at Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle. They’re all examples of clubs who celebrate their successes around the ground.

At the same time, I think people need to recognise that this has come at an awkward time. It’s very easy to ask for a statue of Vardy et. al. But, ultimately, most of our club legends are either still present or fresh in the minds of many. Statues should reminisce people.

Also, having a statue shouldn’t be a debate of who the most ‘influential’ person was. This is clearly a very divisive and disputed topic. Ultimately, I wish the statue had been moved to the memorial garden and we used this space to mark our achievements on the pitch.

some of legendary players are noted in corporate- banks’s lounge , Keith Weller lounge and there is also the champions club. Have we had a player who’s legacy actually deserves a stand naming after them ??  Banks won the WC but he was he here for long enough to make legendary status and we didn’t actually win anything other than the league cup whilst he was here ….

293 appearances over 8 years. English  World Cup winner. Not many clubs can boast that. Here is the image for the statue. Passing on to next generation. This is what we should be celebrating.

I think you make some very good points. Banks was an incredible figure in different ways both here and elsewhere but, he wasn't here long and his main achievements weren't with us. On the other hand, a player can be special to us without the team attaining certain things at the same time.

Different generations may hold different players in high esteem and if we're not careful, we could have a team full of statue candidates and start arguing about it.

To certain other clubs, for various reasons, their candidates tend to stand out a bit more as acceptable and obvious e.g. Shearer at Newcastle and the Holy Trinity of Charlton, Law and Best at Old Trafford.

Having followed Leicester since the 60s there are numerous personal heroes from the different era's for me that I remember nostalgically with huge affection from different points of my life, however, are any of them really worthy of a statue?

It's a difficult one because you can't please everyone all of the time and it's easy to upset and even anger some, so even that could be a dilemma for the club.

I think a statue of Vichai is perhaps both acceptable and wanted by the majority. For me, there's only one player for different reasons that unites and ticks all the boxes and that's Vardy but I think personally it has to be upon retirement which will be a sad sad day that I don't even want to think about yet.

I'm not having a statue of Peter Shilton outside the ground. lol

The guy is a right bitter weirdo.

One person I'd hope the club distances themselves from.

And both prefer to mainly associate themselves with another club lol

And neither had their biggest achievements in a Leicester shirt.
