Sounds like we are the only bid left as we were up against Russia who’ve had their bid pulled out for obvious reasons.

Unless there’s an unlikely last minute bid by the Wednesday deadline we’ll get it by default.

They’ll be 32 teams taking part by 2028 so quite a few stadiums you’d think.

They’ve said all 5 nations will host matches, so Wembley, The Millennium Stadium, Hampden and The Aviva seem likely stadiums.

Northern Ireland doesn’t have a minimum 40,000 capacity stadium needed to host games, so I’d imagine Windsor Park having its capacity doubled or more likely building a new 40,000 capacity stadium in Belfast will be part of the bid too.

This would be great. I think the FA pulled out of a 2030 World Cup bid to focus on Euro 2028

Bidding for a tournament unopposed might be our only shot of getting one!

Why do we need to include Scotland, Wales and Republic Ireland, got enough stadiums in England to host it. Can just imagine, the Germans and Dutch will be excited about playing their knock out game at Aberdeen.

Ireland will still find a way not to qualify tbf.

Well yeah that goes without saying of course, for Northern Ireland or Eire.

It won't be Aberdeen. It has to be a minimum 40,000 seater stadium for starters. There are currently 12 football stadiums in England which meet that criteria. Only 3 are outside London, Manchester or Liverpool. You'd end up with about 50% of the games being played in London, which would be crap, both for us and the foreign fans coming over.

Way better to have the Millennium Stadium, the Aviva, Hampden etc. hosting games than 5 different London stadiums.

Belfast could use Casement Park if it gets redeveloped as expected

The trick is that generally UEFA only allowed one city to have multiple venues unless they claim Old Trafford to be Salford for example

If the expansion goes through, I'd guess King Power would want a piece of that

Prefer the tournaments in other countries, just more fun...and better weather:D.  But at least its not just England hosting.  Ireland would be amazing and it would be great to see a game at celtic park too.

Tbh I much prefer stadium usage to be kept to a minimum. France in 1998 did it with 10 in a 32 team tournament and Euro 2024 will be 10 stadiums. The current 2024 requirements give loads more detail than just the capacity, including VIP capabilities, net capacity after media requirements and even the number of hotel rooms needed for each capacity level

I'd much prefer 10 but I suspect we'll end up with 12 venues including Wembley and one more London-based stadium to add to Aviva (Croke?), Hampden (& Celtic Park??), Belfast, Millennium, Old Trafford/Etihad, St James', Anfield, Villa Park, King Power (biased).

Can't see them not going to Liverpool. Only hedging my bets on Manchester because it'll be capacity v corporate capabilities, we all know how rubbish OT is. The south of the country may suffer (maybe Brighton/Soton?)

I'd be interested to see if they go with Aviva or Croke Park though I guess Aviva is the natural venue to use. Imagine one semi-final at Croke Park and another at the Millennium Stadium, with the final at Wembley.

Guess the barrier to that would be the GAA holding their nose to let a non-Irish sport be played there? Still, guess they let Croke Park be used for rugby that time...

They did let ROI play their qualifiers there whilst Lansdowne was redeveloped, too. Surely not even the GAA would turn their nose up at such a lucrative financial reward of the Euros. Would be a very nice earner...

I think they are crying out for the cash after covid. Alongside that the GAA want Casement Park redeveloped badly, whilst planning has been submitted, they have struggling with funding. A Euro tournament might get more commitment from local governments where they would previously not touch it with a bargepole. There's a very obvious issue with Northern Ireland playing there to given it's name though.

Didn't make the news but Cork's Gaelic ground was used for soccer in 2018 as well as Croke Park before that.

I can't imagine how little interest I will have in international football by 2028. It's complete bobbins now.

We'd probably stand no chance if it was just England as they don't seem to be too keen on the English FA.

Nah they aint bothered. Wembley is UEFA's biggest money maker. And its a city where all it's board members gets put into the best hotel in the world.

It's very likely that London (and Wembley) host a friendly between Italy and Argentina in the summer - both confederations want the payday. It's being billed as a super cup between the Euro champs and the Copa América champs.

Probably likely 10-12 stadiums will be chosen, though we could use more with stadiums we have likely choices I think.

England: Wembley Stadium (1), Old Trafford (2), Villa Park (3), Etihad Stadium (4), Anfield (5), St James (6), Tottenham Hostpur Stadium (7)

Scotland: Hampden (8), Celtic Park (9)

Wales: Millennium Stadium (10)

Northern Ireland: Windsor Park (11)

Rep Of Ireland: Aviva Stadium (12)

Can't say I'd be happy with that choice, but likely.
