New Half Marathon World Record over the weekend

57:30!

Complete piss take, how is it physically possible.

I'm doing the two tunnels half marathon in Bath in Feb, looks decent. Also pencilling in the Ashby 20 miler in March as a gateway as to whether I ever do a full marathon.

My dream is to run to every working mens club in the UK.

If you're going to run 20 you may as well just run 26, no? lol

Just entered the Ashby 20 and Stratford marathon which was only £39 on early bird. Never done either of those distances so if anyone can recommend a training plan it would be appreciated.

The different distance plans on RunnersWorld.com are pretty spot on.

I swear by Runna. PB’d at half distance and twice at marathon distance using their plans. Yes they cost but the plans are based upon your data so adjust accordingly during training.

Went to see my physio today, first time for literally years.

Sorted out a couple of niggling injuries - a hip flexor, which has been gradually getting worse for ages, and what I thought was my arthritic big toe but turned out to be a strain of a small muscle between the metatarsals.

Naturally he decided to bend the arthritic toe to test the range of movement, and bearing in mind it's effectively not moved for literally years, just yanks it downwards by about 90 degrees. I pretty much hit the roof, but when he repeats this a few seconds later, it barely hurts at all.

I ended up almost skipping out of there. It's very easy to convince yourself that your body's had it (especially when, like me, you're REALLY not getting any younger) but you forget how much of this stuff can be fixed relatively easily

Keep meaning to book myself in to see a physio for various niggles. I'm hoping for a miracle!

Honestly shocked to see some of the times in here over the thread. Some are staggeringly good I think.

I started running about three weeks ago due to frankly getting a bit bored of having energy and not using it. 33 years old in like three days for context.

Mainly switched between 4km and 5km runs, depending on the state of my back frankly. Just had nine days off running because of it until this morning.

My 5km best is about 25:50 I think. I'd like to get that down to about 23 mins long term, my best 4km is about 19 mins something so I'd to sit at just over 4:30 per km.

But seeing people in here in around 20-22 mins for 5km is honestly so impressive so kudos to you!

Since going back to running a few weeks ago my 5k off road best is 31:03

It seems very slow to me but mud and slippy surfaces really sap you

Conditions have improved recently though so i'm still holding off running on the road for now

I'd be just staggering :)

Good weekend of running.

A sub 24 on a park run nearby Cambridge on way to Ipswich. Shower at a services and away we went.

15k yesterday done at a sound effort without pushing myself and still quite chuffed with the time

Tried to beat by outdoor 5k PB on Friday, realised about a KM in it was going to be pretty horrendous so backed out but still managed just over a minute short at 22.13 which I was pleased with.

Probably my last run for a while though, think I’ve broken a rib playing football yesterday.

5 mile off road run on Sunday. Felt good at the end but a bit of hip flexor (I think) pain.

So will be keeping it to 5k during the week and 5m on a weekend for a while

My first club run in a while last night. 11.5km total, the half way point consisted of possibly the worst hill I have ever run up which I will now refer to as a tw@t of a hill, and the last 800m of the run was an uphill Strava segment which I went up in 6th out of a group of 7 and got to the finish in 3rd with a 20s PB on. A good night all in all.

Try doing Mowmacre Hill as your final hill climb. Seems to go on forever.
