Now doing my 5k at just over 24 minutes. Lost 13kg since I started - hate rest days.

Need to increase my resistant training but the next target is a 10k and then a 10k under 1 hour.

If you are doing 5k in sub 25 you will be able to 10k sub 1 hour, my 5km time is around 22 minutes last time i did one timed which was a while ago. Did 10km mallory park race last weekend in 46 mins so next goal will be sub 20 5km which i think is do-able this year.

Anyone in this thread have any recommendations for carbon plated? would want a bit of stability which i know is hard to come across but adios pro 3 have glowing reviews, think the vaporflys will be too unstable. Cant for the life of me get hold of any sky/edge asics. Heard Saucony are good

I have a pair of Saucony endorphin pro 3 which I love. Pretty wrecked now though so need an upgrade at some point. However now just doing easy slower runs in standard running shoes. Have ordered some asics Novablast 5’s so looking forward to trying those.

heard good stuff about the endorphin 3, and with the speed 4. I have a pair of Novablast 5, cant compare them to anything as first proper pair of running shoes i own, all i can say is they are very good, comfy with bounce and versatile for both short quick runs and longer runs, i used them for my 10km and they were great.

Nice one, the endorphin pro 4 is out now so I imagine they are great.

I did the Vicky park parkrun on Saturday in 25.48 which I was very happy with as a first run this year! It's a brilliant set up as all of them are but it does feel a bit more of a drag doing 3 laps compared to say, Abbey Park or Braunstone.

Got the Endorphin Speed 3 and the Adidas Boston 12

Spped 3 has a plate that i can definitely feel, maybe because the foam is softer. Boston has rods which i cant really feel, i prefer the Adidas foams and rods

Ok, yea my colleague has the speed 3 and he rates them (nylon plate i think), partner has boston 12 but not sure i they are carbon rods? thought it was just adidas adizero pro's hat are carbon? either way she likes them for her faster runs

Yes the speeds are a nylon plate so theyre not as rigid as full carbon. I think technically the Bostons are glass fibre or somthing like that.

I like them both, though I had to change the laces and wear the right socks to get comfortable in the Bostons. Once set up they are great to run in.

Done 10km in 49 mins flat which is my PB.

Happy with that because I'm nursing either shin splints or a small stress fracture in one leg, so had three days off. Also happy because the first half of the run it started raining fairly hard and a little windy 🤣

Next aim is to do a half marathon distance, possibly on Friday

Decided to withdraw from Edinburgh marathon as the logistics were becoming a nightmare.

Decided to concentrate on half marathons instead this year (although still have an entry for an ultra) so can anyone recommend some decent ones? Already entered Retford and one in Belgium.

Gets expensive doesn’t it. I’ve buried my head in the sand for the Great North Run, recon I’ll be sleeping in the car.

It’s mad. I’m going to the European running championships in Belgium and it’s so much cheaper and easier than trying to get to Edinburgh!

Liverpool is about to close to entries but it's a good route I think. About 4 miles back in alongside the Mersey. Just one hill in the first mile

Finished January having done 80k of running overall and then got my PB of 25mins at Abbey Park PR today. Really pleased and looking to sign up to the Leicester 10k in April now I’ve got the bug.

Did a breezy 10km at dawn's crack but my route is essentially a slow climb followed by a lovely last 1.5km or so I can absolutely belt, gradual decline

Ruined today by someone running infront of me on the last stretch, they weren't going quick, but they weren't going slow. One of them where an overtake looks aggressive so I simply had to slow myself, befitting my status as Britain's Politest Man

1st ever 10k today

Managed 57 minutes which I was pleased with tbh

I ran a 10k in that time yesterday and I've done dozens of them (but am also old), so that looks like a good start to me

Yeah Hastings High School Parkrun isn't much cop. I suppose it was a novelty last Saturday in the mud mind.

Round the corner from me, I've heard it's just laps round the school field?

Yep. Four laps around the field. Some of which now has a gravel path but thr turning points on the grass slow you right now. Then four of those laps have you bombing around the school which is full of corners.

it’s a novelty but I wont be rush back. Hard to say if you’ve got a decent time around there or not

I'm at a stage where my 10k pace is only a few seconds off of my 5k pace. Can only think I'm not pushing myself enough on my short runs.

Also I think I'm the only person in the world that doesn't feel remotely thirsty after a run no matter the distance lol

Tried to do a 'steady' 10k this morning having been really lax with my mileage since Christmas really. Did it in 55:43 and felt I had a bit more to give but being diabetic means prep doesn't always count for much and how you are feeling on the day is how you are feeling! Got the RunForAll 10k on 3rd March and put down 50-55mins for that so hoping to make the lower end. We will see.

Anyone here suffer from shin splints?

They're really hampering my running. I thought it was because I've basically done a lot of Kms in a relatively short space of time, but now after speaking to some guys at work I'm not sure if it's my running style and I'm heel striking (as well as the distance). I'm actually going for a gait analysis tomorrow afternoon after workmates recommended it.

When I did 5kms all the time, I never got any pain. It's since I've started doing 15km or more, and probably too soon another longer run.

For context I've done 15km this morning. It took me the first 7km of absolute agony of shin pain before it subsides and I can run normally at pace. Same the other day when I did a half marathon distance, 7km before painless. I probably need to have a good length of time off really and a rest but then I'll feel a bit bored and lazy frankly.

I've tried all the gel or deep heat type stuff. My legs are fine after running and usually the day after, but two or three days later ache and any run is pain until they free themselves up a bit.

The tip I was given, and I've no idea what science there is to this, but it seemed to work for me, was to massage the areas of your calves furthest away from where you feel the discomfort. For example, I felt the pain mainly around the front and inside of my shin, so I'd massage my calf on the outside, if that makes sense, which seemed to sort the pain more than massaging the area that actually hurt
