Just in from 30km in absolutely rancid conditions, 2:26:51. Chuffed with that considering sub 2hrs30m was the aim

That's absolutely disgusting

Royal parks half marathon London in a few weeks. Never ran half marathon before only 10km races a couple of times. Any tips? As it is my first will go for negative splits first half see how I’m feeling then push on second half if feeling good. Not going for a time as first one but aiming for under 2 hours would be delighted with 1:50

training with Sis beta gels going to take one every half an hour

I am much better at finding a solid pace and sticking to it, rather than starting very steady and then trying to kick on 2nd half. Doesn't work for me. Although that said, i've been known to pick what I think is a pace I can stick to on the day and then i'm done by 15km and fall apart. Just do what feels right and hammer the gels 😂

yep going to do a few runs with segments of "race pace" and see how i find it. Definitely going to nail the gels!

Only tip I would give is, if it’s a race with a big crowd don’t go out and absolutely batter the first couple of KMs.

When I did the GNR I stopped for a piss after a minute and still somehow ran the first mile as quick as any other on the race despite not moving for a minute, and that absolutely ****ed me for the first 5k mentally and physically before I got back into a rhythm.

I guess that’s another tip, empty your bladder as best you can before the race 😂. I was that bad in the starting pen I’d convinced myself that pissing myself would be completely normal and fine… luckily I didn’t.

Yea so don't get caught up in the crowd at the start i guess.. i had three toilet stops when i did a 16km run at the weekend, albeit smashed a coffee and a glass of water with electrolytes before I set off. I am assuming as it is well organised there will be portaloo's along the course?

Probably mate, and if not people will be pissing AOTS anyway so I wouldn’t worry.

Just my two pence but a beta fuel every 30 mins is pretty excessive for a half marathon. That's more a full marathon fueling strategy.

For a half I usually take a SIS Isotonic at mile 4 and an SIS electrolyte gel at mile 9.

However, It all depends on how your body can handle it.

Only done sub 20 mins a handful of times mate and they were always by the skin of my teeth listening to some of the worst music imaginable to set a pace. Haven't gone out for just a 5km in about half a year now mind!

Did earlier today 23km running the Norfolk coast from Sheringham to Overstrand and back. Done it as part of my half marathon training for Peterborough half in three weeks.

**** me it's inclined this run. Total elevation gain according to Strava is 205m 😂 Absolutely done my thighs in.

The half marathon elapsed time is 1:47, that's with about 4 mins stopping for the map and for a couple of pics. It's gone down as my third best PB which given the hills I'm reasonably happy with. Only times I went slower than 5 mins per km is because of the hills (5:18 on km 16 with an elevation of 30m 😂)

Pb remains 1:40 which was done in and around Peterborough and much flatter. Hoping to get closer to 1:30 than 1:35 in the event next month.

Also, shout out to matey with the beard and pushchair a mile or so out of Sheringham. Let him keep the pavement as I went on the road and he put his hand up then said 'nice shirt mate'. Was wearing the Lcfc Grey 2018 away shirt. So if you're on here, hello 👋😂

That's fast mate. My best 15km I did a week ago in 1:09 and I was absolutely ****ed after. I've no idea how I'm ever gonna get close to an hour which is what I'd like long term 😂

That is impressive. How old are you? all out 5km are the worst.

Gonna try and target a better half time myself now man, best is 1hr42 flat, I think sub 1hr40 is achievable but don't think I'd ever realistically trouble the 1hr30 mark, simply love curries and pints too much
