There's rumours they are altering the course for this year but not sure if that's been confirmed?

I agree with your assessment. The Birstall hill is fine, but New Walk is relentless. I don't think you can approach it overly tactically. Just grin and bare the fcuker.

I think altering it centres around a bridge on Watermead which the local council there have had closed for about two months and done **** all about.

Anyone got any 2026 recommendations for races? Half marathons are my preference but will do at least one full marathon next year. Keen to get a few unusual or different courses in next year so any hidden gems etc would be great.

Big Dipper - If you want something really challenging.

Anglesey - For a challenge and the views.

Bournemouth - If you want to really smash a PB.

I would imagine Sheffield would be real test with the hills.

It is - Tommeh ex of this parish and MTWG's drinking buddy - did it a few years back, devilish beginning.

Did quite a bit of running in North Devon a few weeks back - Some of the hills around there were not a joke.

There's one coming out of Woolacombe that made me question my life choices...awful.

Bournemouth is a good route but if the wind is against you you're suppered. Plus the absolute bastard incline 2 thirds of the way through.

Likewise back in July. Did Woolacombe/Baggy Point/Croyde/Saunton and back to Woolacombe. Spicy

Carrying a lazy 3 year old up Baggy Point was enough...Not sure I'd fancy running up it!

Starting to feel recovered from injury now, leg has stopped throbbing after runs. Been twice to a physio which I think has really helped.

Just done 10 miles or just over 16k in 1:14:10 which I'm fairly pleased about. If did a half and maintained that I'd be sub 1:40 and closer to 1:35. Windy af out there when I did it too 🤣  pushed at the end and somewhere in the latter part of the run did a 5k in 21:29 which I'm pleased about too considering how much I've toned down the running.

On holiday at the min and ran 10k yesterday. Thought I could run along a rough road next to the beach which quickly disappeared and left me running on soft sand. Absolutely disgusting 😂 luckily that was probably only about 15% of the run but it ****ed me from the start.

I said I would do 17 miles over here, not sure that’s happening.

Heading out in the dark at 6am is a bit of a sullen feeling but hopefully still get that early morning sunrise buzz if it clears up.

I love it being dark first thing, makes me feel like I'm doing some sort of challenge, saw a ****ing badger in watermead the other week though in the dark and it put the shits up me

Specifically aiming to do a 30km tomorrow when it's absolutely hammering it down, eyeing up sub 2hr30

Was delighted last weekend with a new 5K parkrun PB of 23:24, my first sub-24 run. Had a freakishly good run this morning that I dont think, at 38, slightly overweight and type 1 diabetic that ill ever beat. New Parkrun PB of 22:05!

Manchester Half (the October one) is fast and flat

Marathon Eryri is a must as the scenery is unbelievable and the course not as tricky as it sounds (ballot entry though which sucks)

Tissington Trail Half in September is always a good one

If you want a race that has a format like no other the summer version of Round Sheffield Run is something else - 11 times stages and recovery bits for you to fuel/dick about/clean the blood off you when you’ve fallen over (that from experience!)

Chester Metric Marathon

Naseby 1645

Naseby and Round Sheffield Run are my favourite races ever even if they are completely hideous and break your soul!

I’m a 5am runner no matter what time of the year and I love it. The canal in the summer is a particular highlight

Nice one mate. I really wanted to do Tissington next weekend, its on both days isn't it? But unfortunately the missus is away so I can't.

Stupid prat thought i'd booked Northampton half marathon for tomorrow but when I checked on Thursday night i'd not and it had closed. Went out this morning early and did a local one. 1hr 46 which is decent for me (3 mins off my best) but not run that distance for a few months so quite pleased.

Should set me up nicely for 3 in the next 3 months.

Saturday and Sunday, yeah. There is an April version if I remember rightly but it goes the other way which is all gently uphill.

You dodged a bullet. I did this the other year and it’s the most uninspiring route ever. It’s incredibly boring route with sporadic support with the last mile and a bit being uphill.
