BBC up here (Reporting Scotland) suggested that they have really struggled to shift tickets for Scotland's opener, tickets are still available for sale and they recently gave 1,000 tickets to local schoolkids.

Italy-Germany semi final was an all time game. But there were lots of disappointing games as well.

Perhaps the 2 most purely entertaining of my lifetime were in places you wouldn't expect - USA and Japan/Korea. Russia 2018 was also a very entertaining tournament.

If I had to pick just 1 tournament to relive, it'd be France 98. A combination of great players, some great games, and the atmosphere of a major sporting event in France. But probably just because I was 13. An iconic tournament.

I do feel for the fans, particularly of the smaller nations, for the farce this is becoming and will be.

It's not going to be a farce. Everything is sold out. I have 6 friends of mine travelling there and they paid reasonable prices. They even rented a mini van at a price you won't even find here in UK. Not even close.

Do you guys now realised the corruption in FIFA and the sport in general? I understand some of you hate Trump but your reactions are ridiculous.

... you're certain of this as much as you are certain of the rest of your statement here?

I guess we'll see how things play out, but I'll be honest, turning back a high quality referee and subjecting incoming teams to discriminatory border checks on account of their nationality to name but two matters, isn't a good look for a tournament which is supposed to be entirely about equality of opportunity.

NB. The current US administration have demonstrated, repeatedly, that they are unbelievably objectionable to anyone with a hint of empathetic conscience, so I'm not sure there's really much room for argument there.

Will probably see a load of freeloaders getting tickets .

With them sat opposite the cameras to make it look like the ground is full .

Plus generated sound effects in the background, to make it perceived to the viewers that it has a good atmosphere.

Slightly nuts to think there have been 6 world cups between this one and France 98, the same as between France 98 and Mexico 1970.

The problem is that a lot of you and some specific media focus solely on the political aspect. The tournament will be unfortunately a huge success. I'm saying unfortunately because I want it to fail miserably not because of Trump but because I want the sport to collapse.

I don't give a F about a ref from Africa, Antarctica or Mars. He's part of the demise of the sport like all of them.

Can't say I quite get the differentation between the vehement (and justified) anger at the corruption in the modern game and the political corruption (that the current US administration embodies) that has aided and abetted it here, as well as the lack of any kind of empathy for players and refs that are often simply caught up in that same corrupt system rather than having any real say in it...but I appreciate you making your point very clear, as usual.

I'm more baffled by the incompetence of it all. Surely FIFA were aware that the US has a travel ban on certain countries, including Somalia. Did they not think to check whether this referee would be allowed entry? Why were there no conversations beforehand? It's just another egg in the face moment.

FIFA has precedent on taking tournaments away from nations that don't offer visas to key personnel (U-17 World Cup in Indonesia).

Of course, they would never dare to do such a thing in this case, which makes them craven as well as incompetent.

That being said, this problem wouldn't exist without the bigoted stance that doesn't let a fully qualified and innocent referee into a nation simply because of his nationality.

My point is that everyone involved in the sport is responsible for this. From fans attending the games to the last employee.

It's also undeniable and agree with you the link between the corrupted bodies of football and politicians but I tend not to comment on politics here because when I did I've got a ban on the general chat thread.

It already is a farce, you’ve got World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavarro and his Uzbek team getting basically strip searched on an airport runway. You’ve got referees that can’t get into the country. You’ve got fans that have to pay hundreds of dollars just to get to a stadium as they’re only accessible by car.

As we saw with Russia and Qatar, it’s easy to forget about the bad stuff once the football starts and the games are actually really good but it’s still an utter disgrace what’s happening. And if the games are similar to how football has been over the past 1/2 seasons, then it’ll be a bad spectacle.

Also it has little to do with Trump, more the post Reagan American system that’s been built. If anything Trump’s enthusiasm and friendship with Infantino will eventually lead to problems being solved.

What's quite annoying is some of the fans saying along the lines of "England will fail again" etc, instead of actually backing them.

It's two very small nations in terms of footballing ability in a City with next to no Scottish or Haitian population. Which means there's a little interest from local people.

With the way that the ticket resale platform works, there will be a lot of tickets available with relatively little demand. Prices will plummet and I think a lot of local fans will be able to get tickets on the day for a very good price.

My friends payed $485 each for the 6-pack of games. Is that expensive? I don't think so. Some were paying £40 to watch Ayew and they were clapping also. They've also split the costs of a rental van.

No surprise, this is the problem with the expansion, a little nation like Scotland with a lack of genuine passion for the game are going to struggle to fill massive stadiums.

According to the State Department the Somalian referee had links to terror organisations so I guess it makes sense why he wasn’t allowed in.

Who are well known for their honesty and probity when it comes to Somalian nationals under this current administration.

To be frank I think having a travel ban from Somalia can only be a good thing. I'd back the same here.

However, there must surely be some common sense in allowing the referee into the Country, if he's got all the necessary paperwork and no criminal record.
