Maynard and we had 4 million pages on him. 3,999,930 from Bristol fans claiming he was better than us and they were a bigger club 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Swear we wanted Edgar Davids back in 2010, think he opted for Palace in the end.

Yeah remember that one, I think Pearson wanted to bring in some experience in midfield. Spoke to Davids who was interested in playing in England again, problem was he didn't want to play outside of London. A few months before he was being linked with Sven at Notts County during that bogus takeover but turned them down despite being offered a lot of money.

I remember telling one of them that we would probably play in Europe before they played in the Premier League and they took screenshots to take back to their forum.

I don't think they were laughing for as long as I've been. 🤣

To be fair, he did play in the Premier League before we played in Europe.

Much as I hate the spud cvnt. I would say we didn't dodge a bullet with him.

We seemed to be very close to signing Joseph Desire-Job when his career was very much on the downward trajectory.

And of course Hasselbaink too, pretty much signed before Allen's fall out and ended up at Cardiff without pulling up any trees although they made the FA Cup Final I believe.

Too much ambition,  he wanted trophies.

Absolutely pointless even looking at us.

Selfish , just play football,  get paid, go home.😝

Lou Macari - if he genuinely preferred playing for Man Utd reserves, then he wasn't going to put in a shift for us.

Looking at his wiki history, I have a bit more respect for him. Yes he was prone to dodgy dealings early on, but he had to cope with family tragedies later on. And he did a lot apparently to help the homeless, particularly in the pandemic.

Still glad he never came to our club.

O'Neill was infamous at Sunderland for being about the only manager in the PL who didn't use the data technology that was making its name at the time (sportzone?) He was a great motivator and man manager of old school type players, but he never believed in sports science or stats or data analysis or that kind of thing and in fact actively stood against it.

I don't think he'd have won the league, in fact I's worry that he probably would've torn apart all the sports science and data analysis infrastructure Pearson had put in place, it's ultimately why the game ended up leaving O'Neill behind I think.

O’Neill based his methods entirely on Clough, which was great in the 70s when players were playing pissed and had three fags at half time. Also worked for us for a bit in the late 90s.

I remember when that bricklayer Geoff Horsfield turned us down for being too small. Did he later play for us for a bit? I forget. In the mid to late 2000s we signed about 45 players a season.

He certainly did. A Rob Kelly loan signing iirc. Had the pleasure of meeting him, a great bloke (aside from his earlier rebuffing of us).
