Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

Norwich were in the middle of a 16 game losing streak in the PL when we played them at the start of last season. Even at the start of last season they lost their first 6 games and took 2 points from the first 10. They might have been aggressive but they were crap.

We played a Watford side that had lost 11 games in a row at home until the midweek before they played us where they drew 0-0 with a poor Everton side.

Southampton had taken 4 points from 10 games before they played us on the final day.

Of course it’s very possible that had we played those games earlier in the season we’d have won them anyway but we could hardly have had a more generous end to the season (the opposite having been true the previous two years).

Take that point entirely but we can turn it the other way can’t we? Playing Liverpool with less than 48 hours in mid Christmas after playing Man City away.

This ‘yeah but we played poor teams at the end’ argument is nonsense. Would the season be looked on any poorer if we beat Norwich, Watford and Saints in the middle of the season but still finished 8th on the same amount points

For all the grief Rodgers gets on here, I was listening to Sky Transfer Centre earlier where it was being pointed out (if true) that Leicester have only spent 25 million net, under Rodgers.

They were emphasising just how well he’d done, given this.

Is this right? I thought it sounded completely wrong but I’m sure some smart ass on here will come up with the figures.

He sold maguire and chilwell for £130m

but I reckon it’s closer to £75m

Yep agree, just not sure we should be looking any more into the last 3 games of last season than the 35 which preceded them. I think a lot of people hoping we build on a “strong finish” are going to be sorely disappointed.

He will be at war with the club well before Christmas.

Personally doubt he will be - he’s not a prized manager anymore and the only way he gets clubs interested is achieving something with us.

I think people doubt what Rodgers has on the line here tbh. No club of any note will touch him if he seriously fails here

I think that might be around the average figure per season during his time here, rather than the total?

Total spend of around £206m

19/20 - £94m on Tielemans, Perez, Praet, Justin

20/21 - £57m on Fofana, Castagne

21/22 - £55m on Daka, Soumare, Vestergaard

Total sold of around £144m

19/20 - £81m from Maguire, Elder

20/21 - £53m from Chilwell, Gray, Diabate

21/22 - £10m from Ghezzal, Sowah

You could probably change a few of the figures around by a few million but the above wont be too far off

Still relatively low tbf

Its UEFA FFP that has changed, not Prem, so IF we got Europe again they could nail us if we don't start sorting it right now as it kicks in from the next season we could possibly be in Europe - 2023/24

From 2023/24 clubs are allowed to spend 90% of revenue on wages, transfers and agents' fees

Then down to 80% in 2024/25

Then down to 70% in 2025/26

The sanctions are progressive as well, so it isn't just a case of fall afoul pay a fine and that is it, the longer it goes on the more severe the sanctions get

Whilst the reasons for enforcement is to stop oil clubs crashing the establishment, the fact we had wages over 100% of turn over is just bonkers!

the oil clubs will bypass this either way with fake sponsorship deals etc

For the first time the club (and himself to an extent) are being questioned and put under pressure- he needs to galvanise the squad,

Not throw them under a bus and go crawling back when you realise you can’t replace them then

You mean after the forest game?

Some of them need running over by the bus.

Let’s be straight here - the club missed years of valid income by having king power only paying a few million per season

that was hugely naive

Definitely, which they finally realised and brought in FBS.

I would expect we would sell the naming rights to the stadium and training ground if we are as hard up as some make out.

I can’t believe that vichai and top weren’t told they should put money in 2017-2020 via KP sponsorship. Weird that it wasn’t done.

Perhaps, but whilst wealthy king power is no Middle Eastern state, we have mismanaged the wage budget

i just imagine Top had a lot on his mind taking over a business empire.

Sort of understandable thing have dropped down the cracks, it can't have been an easy ride with that and then the global pandemic.

He probably wasn't aware but was certainly put in the full picture after the post Forest comments.

....instantly absolved from his remarks about the rebuild!!!

This will either be spin or shows a lack of communication between Rudkin, Top, and Rodgers, as Top was repeating the same mantra of the rebuild, the same as Rodgers.

I hope I am wrong but I see us losing WES , YOURI  and Maddison , right at the end of the window with no time to get players in , HOW the hell has it come to this , claiming to want to be a top four team , to maybe fighting to avoid relegation. These rich clubs can sit back and wait to the last minute then throw u can’t refuse price and ur season is finished before it starts it wrong .

What really worries me is that most of our squad are either wanting a move away, being touted around as unwanted players or being linked to other clubs.

I can only think of Evans, Ricardo, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall, Albrighton and Iheanacho who don’t fall into any of those categories (but it wouldn’t surprise me if we are also trying to offload the latter).

Hardly the makings of a tight, motivated squad.
