You are right that the 70% figure doesn’t come in 25/26 but the new rules are introduced in January 23 and run to December 23. That in itself is a change because hitherto they have been measured over the clubs trading year.

The % that is allowable in year one in 90%. But that’s not just 90% in wage terms it’s 90% of every cost associated with the players. If players are purchased in this window then that will inevitably lead to any bumping up amortisation and will add to the charge for the term if the players contract

Based on my very much back of a fag packet calculations hitting that 90% is going to be a challenge. I haven’t looked back too far but without player sales of note added to the maximum allowable contributions from the owners I just can’t see how player costs can be allowed to increase

In the first couple of years the suggestion will in effect be a luxury tax with the suggestion being that for every £ you exceed the 90% figure you will be deducted a multiple from the money you will be due from UEFA then shared amongst all participants in that competition

It is expected that the PL will bow to the pressure from UEFA to introduce ( as will other) Football Associations one standard approach

Yep, all true, but if the PL brings it in it will have to provide the sort of notice Uefa have. This isn’t going to happen overnight.

It’s also well-publicised that most of our highest paid players are out of contract in summer 2023. This is potentially a disaster on the playing side but financially it gives us some flexibility for 2023 and lots for 2024. It’s not a problem that has to be solved today, albeit anything we do now helps.

It’s not a non-issue and the club will obviously be thinking about it but it doesn’t explain why the club won’t sanction any transfers at all without players moving on. It strikes me as more likely something driven by either PL FFP which is a current threat rather than a future one or a lack of cash to fund transfer fees.

Bloke spent £60m quid on shite, we've opened a brand new training complex and are in the process up expanding the ground. Honestly **** off... if he'd gone and spunked another £40m on shit would that mean we're not standing still.

I think it's best for brendan to focus the players he has and to stop discarding them...like old lovers.

Have you ever noticed how he keep glancing to the side in interviews... to see if we are buying his shit.

I think there is a element of not trusting him to spend the money wisely.

Looking at his transfer’s here he has spent around 200 million.

Our signing’s under him baring two or three haven’t worked out to well.

My opinion is he has to work out the mess he has created with overpaid poor back up players we can’t shift.

Our recent transfer strategy hasn’t been as good as it was before he came in.

It’s important not to waste the best part of 200m again.

I think we have money to spend, we just have  a oversized squad and no room for new arrivals.

This summer actually reminds me of the situation in 2013. We suddenly stopped signing players and had multiple players coming to the end of their contracts with no new deals on the table.

We looked set up for a poor season, but actually won the Championship with 102 points. We didn’t find out until later that we’d badly breached all the FFP rules and promotion saved us from punitive measures from the Football League.

So the solution is simple. All we need to do is qualify for the Champions League and then build again. Of course … there might be a few other teams who get in the way of  us actually achieving that

There is an interesting/unique dynamic to this forthcoming season, in that the mid winter break for the World Cup offers Premier League teams to press the Managerial reset button in November and have a 4 week window to appoint a new man and allow some element of bedding time before the season resumes at Christmas and then straight into the January transfer window.

I think we could see anything up to 4,5 or even half a dozen teams use this break as an opportunity to move in a different direction, which will place added pressure on Managers to get off to a decent start or they will be anxiously looking over their shoulders.

This situation will offer clubs the lowest level of risk to make a change during the season.

Who do I go to war with for the signings of Vestegaard and Bertrand. I'm sorry I back the owner with the approach here. I know we need to move forward and add to this squad but the quality of signings have not always been top draw since this managers arrival.

They have though. In another thread we're talking about selling Fofona for 100m, a player signed by Rodgers.

All managers bring in good and rubbish. Last summer was poor but aisde from that I think Rodgers has got it nearly right. I say nearly because we still lack a good right winger. Since this managers arrival we have brought in at least three regular first team players in Fofona, Castagne and Justin. A couple decent enough squad players in Praet and Perez. This is on top of losing key players to this team - Chilwell, Maguire, Morgan - and it looks like Kasper will be the next one to go.

Some bizarre comments that "Rogers can not be trusted with the money, wasted millions of cash"

Signings on the whole by the club during his time are very solid... not that Rogers signs them anyway, recruitment do all this.

Rogers signed in 2019?

If we look who came during that time

Tielemans - Superb signing in my view

Fofana - again superb

Perez - Good squad player off the bench but we certainly overpaid.

Castagne - great squad player

Justin - great player

Daka - Starting to score again and will come good

Praet - good player, just didnt get a chance due to quality in that area

Vestergaard - He was an error, but arguably a bottom half Prem player

Bertrand - error - but was Free and purchased as position cover/first team for Fuchs and Chillwell

The clear out comment was justified as well if we are serious about trying to squeeze a top 6 sport consistently.

I was solid Brendan In but i've got to say his off the cuff BS after the Forest game has pissed me off a tad. He was trying to bounce the club into doing what he wants to ease the pressure on himself.  Now he's been shown up.

I believe the success of Martin Glover replacing Congerton is a big indicator of what success we have in recruitment. We have all heard the failures in recruitment of Congerton at Celtic and those same errors kind of happened here. Glover and the new head of medicine can really set us back on the right track onwards to an upwards trajectory again so there is reason for optimism in our structure as long as we begin to cut our wages and utilise the loan and youth systems to our advantage.

The fact he sold us Vestergaard for £15m from Southampton shows he might even improve us selling off deadwood e.g. Vestergaard and Bertrand again pls. 🧐

So you’re telling me we’re going to win the league? ;)

I think I’m trying to convince myself that signings aren’t everything, but I’m actually as nervous as anyone about the whole lack of activity and what it means for our future

I think many of us were realistic to know we didn't have a lot of spare money, but the fact we have zero funds is abit of a shock. This season we should be ok with a good enough squad for 7/8th, but next season could be a disaster, with so many players out of contract and leaving for free. I think that's when Rodgers will jump.

The problem we have is players like Praet and Mendy are great squad players but the way they've been mismanaged to the point where they are just completely surplus to requirements means they want out. Then we turn to them when we need them suddenly.

It's hardly a good way to manage the squad. Anyone can see Praet has the quality and he would be like a new signing in itself if we can get the best out of him.

I think we’ve done a brilliant job of pleading poverty

makes it much easier to drive a better fee on buying and when it comes to selling, we don’t have to accept an offer we don’t want to. If we were so broke then we’d have already sold a couple. Business’ that are broke become v pragmatic when making sales.

I'm still baffled as to how both club and manager piped the idea of rebuilding this summer with seemingly little foundations to do so.

Usually we're good at getting this stuff right. We must have really overestimated interest in Praet, Perez, and Hamza
