Every chance that his extra year isn't at £60k. But even then we don't exactly have to offer him for that much money to attract interest. Especially if he plays well in the Championship.

Worst case scenario we have to pay him £3m, best case is he gets promoted with Watford as a big part of their side and we have their pants down for it.

For me, it's worth the risk. Even if he just has a good season I think there will be teams that would want him for a small fee.

Extended options are usually on the same terms, it's a ridiculous move on our part.

There's absolutely no way Hamza is signed by another club in the summer, especially if the extension does mean his salary remains the same. No other club will be stupid enough to go close to those wages. Lunacy.

This is an extremely limited player with very little football knowhow who happens to have a good engine. I'll be amazed if he gets more than 15 starts, especially for a team chasing promotion.

Rogers is touted as a great man manager and motivator to young players. He’s missed a trick with Hamza. At one point called him his mascherano after a stellar performance. Look Hamza as a player is still raw. It’s probably not good that he hasn’t developed further at his age and time at the club BUT there are many reasons for that. It’s not all his fault.

I really do hope he takes his chance at watford and the manager there can finally spend the time on him to make him the player we all know he can be. Hamza is home grown and despite his faults or short comings is one of our own and he’s never said a bad word about the city or club.

he quietly gets on with what he’s told to do.

I will never pan him.
good luck Hamza now go show us all what you can really do - the shackles are off!

He can be the player we know he can be??? What is that exactly??? Mate he is just not very good I’m afraid, well premier league quality that is, glad he is off our wage bill l, shame it’s not permanent

The only positive I'm taking out of this is, we can't be that screwed on FFP if we're giving Choudhury another year on the very wage that has seen us unable to loan/sell him for 2 years previously.

Doesn’t quite fit the narrative we are being fed. Given what’s been in the public domain you would expect the club to be chomping at the bit getting rid of high earners and accepting bids for players like Vesty, if the finances were as dire as we are led to believe.

Maybe they trying to force Rogers hand by keeping the purse strings closed.

I thought he was out of contact at the end of the season ?

Whats this talk of him having a new contract

Just seen that we’ve triggered a contract extension, what are the club playing at ?

Eh? lol

What does this mean? Playing 43 mins in the FA Cup that season entitles the man to earn £3 million a season while contributing almost nothing, less than nothing in some instances.

If not, then I'm interested to hear what you mean by this reply lol

I mean he's done more in his life than you. He's got an F.A cup winners medal. He played a part in the final that won us the cup for the first time in our history. And you?

Come now, I think filbert's being harsh about his potential given sustained playing time, yet you can't dismiss criticism based on the fact someone's done more things than the criticiser. I think most of the government's front bench are ***** but admittedly they've done more than me.

I assume this is a joke response not to be taken seriously in any way at all?

Hamza is the modern day Robbie savage, he has a great engine but he is a very limited footballer.

he doesn’t suit our style of play but could go on to have a premier career like Savage, although I feel the premier league doesn’t really have teams that play with that type of player anymore.

I would personally wish him the best for the future, as he and his parents would have put in a lot of time, effort and dedication in enabling him to come through the academy over the years and they would all have sacrificed a lot along the way.

i know you're only joking but it is massive with him being his best friend (at least in the short term). hopefully it will make him more focused

Watford is like 2 hours max commute away, they're hardly being separated in terms of social life

Surprised at the number of “his attitude has been great” comments.

This is the guy who showed up to training late after going on the piss with Chilwell and got dropped at Burnley because of it. And also the guy who went to a lockdown party before a crucial game at West Ham. Not to mention the guy who got pissed up after us getting hammered at Forest.

If anything, I’d say his attitude and application was probably his flaw. He’s a championship player on ability who could maybe have carved a Premier League career with a bit of application.

Good move all round.

Why are you surprised?

Most of the comments on here are just throwaway one-liners from posters that have no idea what Hamza’s ‘attitude’ is like. It’s just something to write that sounds at least a little positive and isn’t controversial.

I think you’re spot on. There’s two likely  realities here I think. Choudry’s ‘attitude’ probably hasn’t been the best actually. And the club to have been paying him 60k per week have been absolutely fookin stupid.

As I said above, I’m glad he’s gone for all the right reasons

This.

Careful though…you’ll get people on here accuse you of making personal attacks.

I wasn’t going to comment on this post but the amount of people changing the narrative and making it sound like Hamza has been unlucky not to get more minutes really baffle me.

As for his passing ability (lack there of) for me it goes one step further, he genuinely hides from the ball and doesn’t open up the pitch to receive the ball off the CB/FB’s which is an awful trait at any level.

Distinct lack of social media " more life bro " " go smash it Hamza : " this is your time " posts from team mates and peers.

It’s just what footballers do Ric. They’ll all be supporting of him.

I’d be very interested to see how he does with a full uninterrupted season. I still reckon he could become a decent premier league Midfielder. Just as long as he doesn’t get sent off within  20 mins of his debut with a terrible lunge.

...he needs to play with the attitude of not going to ground!!!

He is quick enough across the ground and so long as he uses his body, he will come out the right side of most of the referee's call.

Just stay on your feet Hamza, it is a good discipline to have.

Tamworth youth cup! And I played every game, you want to try being a goalkeeper playing at the lamb in May. It's like concrete! :D

Tbh I'd be embarrassed to claim I played a part in a cup win after featuring for less than a half and I'd be embarrassed if someone leapt to my defence and insisted it was a notable achievement of mine.

He's made it as a pro footballer and earns more in a week than I earn in a year, that's a much better shout then getting a few sub minutes in an FA Cup run :D

Also, I hope you don't go around comparing yourself to people like that mate, it'll be a sad existence unless you're Jeff Bezoz or Elon Musk.

Choudhury?

“Hamza is going to a fantastic club with a good manager. I’m sure he’ll do really well. He’s been a valuable member of his squad, but for him to progress he needs to play more. With one game a week here, he wasn’t going to get game-time. His attitude in training has been first class. They have great supporters who will support him while he’s there.”
