Glad to see Hamza started his Watford career with a bang, now he needs to keep it at that level.   He obviously has the ability, which Puel could see, but not Rodgers...... who will probably be hoping Hamza doesn't continue to smash it in the Championship.  Imagine if he gets in the team of the season at the end of it!

And if he “smashes it” in the Championship we might be able to get £10m for the lad, who still wont be of a sufficient level to start for us next season, it’s a win-win 👍🏻

Why? If he has a good season in the championship why wouldn't you give him a go or us ?

If he has a strong season this year he deserves a chance, just like Barnes and Dewsbury-hall

Barnes and KDH went on loan first and then played for us

Funny that;

Most PL games in one season under Puel 2018/19: PL apps 9 (597 minutes)

Most PL games in one season under Rodgers 2019/20 : PL apps 20 (889 minutes)

Don't let facts get in the way of a dig.

That was the season Puel went so technically those stats are wrong in terms of comparison, but I think Rodgers gave him a few of those minutes as well

If he gets a run of games (which he hasn't for us yet) and he smashes it he deserves a chance and I don't get why fans would be against it.

Good luck to him. The whole point in going out on loan to gain experience and prove you are good enough

...let's hope he gets the coaching that he needs and game time to put it into practice!!!

I would suspect that his new teammates are going to be looking to him to help them in games, he isn't getting any younger, and perhaps having responsibility has not been a feature in his career to date, and he needs to embrace it.

So long as he is helping out in defence and tidying up in the midfield, and being careful in his distribution, then he will be ok. Sending him up the pitch to support the attack is not his game, but he can pick a pass and should be looking to help direct the play.

This is a massive opportunity for him, all that off the pitch stuff needs to be consigned to history.

Yawn....I am not the anti Rodgers brigade, but he clearly has his favourites like all managers, but some at the club obviously rated Hamza and wanted him to succeed.  Rodgers has this habit of praising players and then they go into the wilderness, then you never see much of them again.  He did this with Hamza last season when he filled in at CB, then we didn't see much of him again.  He did the same with Praet just before the first match against Brentford, then left him on the bench when clearly the team were tiring.  I Just wish Rodgers would keep his mouth shut sometimes, that's all, we don't need to know if they are "wonderful human beings".

Hamza played well last night but it’s not rocket science. He’s at his level which is upper Championship standard imo.

I’ve never accepted this argument that there’s a great deal of difference between the Championship and the Premiership. If you actually watch the games, they are miles apart. For all parameters. Speed of thought, athleticism of the players, tactically etc. Miles apart I think.

Amartey would look ok in a side like Watford. That’s his level too.

Hamza is not going to change now, he is what he is . A bit of a stroller, doesn't make a killer pass , a couple of goals a season maybe. What he is , is as hard as nails , intimidates the opposition , tackles with technique and strength and is very durable , doesn't do injury. In the premiership unfortunately the referees are always on his case. In the Championship perhaps they will let him play.

He doesn't really fit our style of play. We need technically gifted players for a possession based system. Choudhury is never going to be that type of player. He doesn't need to be anyway. In a high pressing style of play he would flourish.

...the chasing around and hard tackles is not his game, it never was!!!

Wall passing and making himself available was what he did, and the action man way of playing is now something that he believes people want to see, and he is to a point stuck with it.

I just hope that another coach sees him for what he is, and develops him along those lines.

i was just pointing out that the situation was slightly different and Hamza already has experience, i think we will miss his adaptability when needed, good luck to him,

It's true but then Puel did give him his chance out of nowhere. Not the mention, Puel's dogged insistence on backing youth even when better players were on the bench (Fuch and Chilwell at the start for example) is pretty well know.

Hamza strikes me as a player that would’ve suited the Leeds Bielsa team, with time think he’ll prove to be a decent prem player but probably not with us

Same. He will improve but I doubt he'll get anywhere near Ndidi's ability and Braybrooke will be around if Ndidi does leave.

Here, aren't you forgetting Hamza only broke in the squad half way through the season (against Man City) an then Puel was sacked before the end of the season?

Puel played him in a couple of games against Man City & Liverpool where he was immense. He needs to play consistently and trusted to do the job he's good at, that of a midfield destroyer. He's never going to be a great passer or game breaker, but just like Savage can expect a long career playing top Championship lower PL.

Only the option to buy is believed to be 6 million.

Anyone know the option to buy figure?

Jeez ... he's right at the top of my Athletic feed this morning, and they are reporting only 6 million.

That figure does not jibe with a player making 60 or 75K per week.  There is no way we would have renewed him at that figure to sell him for only 6M.

One of those figures is surely wrong.

I think Rodgers quite rates Hamza but the constant fear of a red card and ten men prevents using him. Since the Klopp incident the refs have been on high alert. I don't think Hamza is a dirty player by any means but he is old school and in today's delicate PL he doesn't really fit.

Makes sense, risk an extension for over 3m a year to potentially gain 3m in fees

We need to change the system, or at least Rodger's version of it, it stinks. Do we have to wait until Rodgers buys these 11 'technically gifted' players for his precious system which is incredibly flawed and his ability to pick those players to fit it questionable at best.
