How is it more expensive for us than Newcastle?

Not more expensive just more affected year on year

Newcastle fans probably couldn't get anywhere and back again when fuel cost less than a quid a litre :D

The travel being more expensive than a ticket point is a train issue. It really isn’t exclusive to Leicester either, there is huge scope for reform in National Rail.

Especially when fuel is through the roof, it should not be taking 2-3 hours to get to Manchester / Liverpool on poorly maintained trains. This doesn’t even factor returns in either, you simply cannot get back past a certain time.

Obviously, I live in Newcastle (during term time) and I considered going to Wolves away last season. This was your standard weekend game, looking at trains, it was a 3.5hr journey and you had to change about 3 times on the way home. Also, amounted to about £55, that was with a 16-25 railcard too.

Going to PSV was an eye opening experience for how rubbish it is here. Clean, well-priced and efficient trains.

I do really hope that there is some change here, correct developments would help reduce the cost of the match day going fan (and help the country in general).

Football is just another asset that will be carved up further to the detriment of the people who live here like everything else in this country unless we make a stand.

COVID proved that football (premier league) doesn't need uk fans when push comes to shove.

Does it truly protect clubs anymore? If anyone wants to watch a game online it's easy enough to find.

In my experience, it does. Particularly in large multi-club cities. Within the Birmingham area, the crowds are notably bigger when the top FL clubs are away.

Sunday was a total nightmare to watch a stream which was within at least a minute of the actual game, didn't crash and didn't corrupt your computer with trojans.

I think where we as a whole underestimate the blackout is the ability to get young kids involved and engaged watching live football. If we get into the practice of its always on a box, I fear for the take-up in the same way participation levels have been reduced by gaming.

The fuel this year has made me change cars, it got to the point where because of going work and back plus away games, it's cheaper for me to get a car on finance.

With better mpg and finance on a diesel I'm £100 better off than I was with no finance and my old petrol car

(I was spending £500 a month on petrol untill a couple months ago before the switch)

I was considering not going to away games because of it. Now my next concern is paying £147 to cook a meal thanks to British gas :S

People will simply start to cut it out. Football is playing a dangerous game currently.

I have.

Saving the cost of a match every week got me a second motorbike last year and is going to send my family off to Thailand in 2023. Things that will absolutely guarantee me more fun than watching Rodgers try to hold a 1-0 by playing out of the back and holding on to possession.

In recent seasons I've taken the train more to away games anyway, especially if it's London (or South East)/Manchester/Newcastle.

But on another note, I did start looking at hotels for Brighton away and they were ridiculous prices. That sort of area has always been high but the standard chains wanted over £150 a night which I couldn't believe.

I know this area very well indeed.

Personally, I wouldn't be staying in Brighton.  I would, perhaps go to Seaford/Newhaven and stay in a b and b.  Then get the train straight to Falmer.

There has to be more of a balance in terms of fans of Premier League clubs being helped with kick off times, though. TV shouldn't rule the top of the game in the way it does and that is creeping into the Championship now (Watford's first three games being Monday, Monday, Friday).

Having three broadcasters hasn't been a positive in the respect of continual matches being moved.

I fully agree that going to matches is the best thing and 3pm Saturday is perfect and we've lost out as fans in that regard.

Doesn't any more, comes down to being able to pay your energy bills and the cost of the petrol and so on. You seen how much gas and leccie will be going up to ??? crazy stuff

Hence my point of sharing the driving and going to away games with friends to lower the cost. Doesn't have to cost hundreds every away game.

Think we all just need to win the lottery. If only hey lol

I kind of hope that they do.

Football needs a massive reality check and I hope people do the right thing and actually cut it out before more essential things.

This also goes for people cancelling their Sky contracts.

Having to miss more than I’d like this season. Mate in Oz is sorting me out with Optus Sport account for £15 a month, so that’s gonna have to fill the void for me.

Agreed that it’s best to stay out of Brighton for sure. Last year we stayed at a Premier Inn in Uckfield as it seemed about the cheapest, then drove the 15 miles to Falmer Station. £80 a night for 2 kids and 2 adults.

This season looked at the same hotel not long after the fixtures were announced and it was £120 per night! Both fixtures in September.

Trains were extortionate even with a rail card and obviously you can’t trust them at the minute, so just my son and I doing this in a day and going on the Ausden bingo bus for £21 each.

The pints in our ground are the most expensive outside of London.  If people keep drinking shit beers at that price then they’re mugs.

It's not just away games, foxiles living in various parts of the country are saying this all the time on groups. Quite a few have said this might be the last year they have STs because a £50 trip is now £120-150. My mate I sit with travels from Lincoln. He sacked off pre-season and has already said it's unlikely he'll be doing cup matches this season.

Clubs need to get a grip on this in terms of overall pricing. There no need for the mark ups they put on the kiosks to follow inflation, it's just profiteering. Across the board, not just City, season ticket & matchday pricing needs addressing. Otherwise, you can lose 2-3000 fans per game before you even realise there's a problem.
