Carabao Cup 3rd Round 2022/23

If scores are level after 90 minutes, the tie will go straight to a penalty shoot-out. There will be no extra-time.

 

Subs

Teams can name up to nine substitutes on the bench, and are allowed to use a maximum of five.

 

Third round draw
The draw for the third round will take place on Wednesday (August 24), live on Sky Sports Main Event, following the end of the televised game between Tranmere Rovers and Newcastle United, which kicks off at 7.45pm. It will be hosted by Sky's new Carabao Cup presenter Mark Chapman.

 

The seven Premier League clubs involved in European competitions will enter at this stage, including Manchester City and Liverpool. Third round ties are due to be played during the week beginning November 7.

The numbers are yet to be confirmed for this evening's draw, but the following teams are in the hat following last night's games.

Mainly because of the European weeks being condensed. The FA have messed up a bit as they could have done the first round before the first league games for EFL and then followed up with the 2nd round a few weeks ago with the 3rd round this week

Two midweek league games, having to fit in six European games plus an international break in late September.

Could they have not featured the first two rounds of the league cup in July being part of the pre-season, I know the argument is the usual top six normally go on some random tour somewhere but even so usually in the early rounds at least the top six normally field under 23 players anyway, as long as they can put 11 out.
