Who is responsible for negotiating contracts? Is that Rudkin?

Would be no surprise if our change if plans, as Rodgers put it, is because him and Rudkin have fell out.

Difficult to say he isn't good enough as I don't know what he does but I fear Rudkin is a big part of the problem..

Depends on the clubs structure but the common structure is for the Director of Football ( Rudkin) and the Finance director negotiate the contracts. Sometimes the CEO eg Levi at Spurs & Woodward at Man Utd were doing contract negotiations at those clubs

The fact they're persisting with him Rodgers and waiting until we are well adrift to pull the trigger is another major failure in itself. We can all see where we are heading, but they seem to want to delay the inevitable

Don’t understand why people can’t  see the board are well aware BR is trying to get the sack. They just want to sack him on their own terms and at a time of their choosing ie when they have a suitable replacement lined up.

No use leaving us rudderless or making a panic appointment.

Last season we brought in players without selling a big name. And unlike previous seasons we also didn’t achieve European football. Financially we were going to have to take a hit, i.e sell a big name without spending too much. The bigger problem seems to be the recent wage bill hike: Kasper and Hamza have alleviated that somewhat but retaining Soumare and Vestergaard is troubling.

I understand this and I think the board are doing what’s right but obviously painful. The only thing that makes me question the board is why we’re keeping a manager who’s disliked by the fans, disliked by the players, who’s isolated players, who’s responsible for underwhelming and overpaid squad fillers and who has us bottom of the league.

Unless the board were using him to do some dirty work before the transfer window closed then I have no idea what they’re playing at because if he’s kept any longer I fear he’ll send us down the path to the Championship.

I understand the situation we’re in.

What I don’t understand is how we sleep walked into it.

Someone seriously took their eye off the ball.

I think we gambled on Champions League money that would have covered the wages and keeping a big name last season.

We should have realised, however, that giving Brendan free reign in the transfer market was a bad idea. I think we did our best to mitigate that by getting rid of Congerton.

Does Brendan have a clause in his contract where we don't have to pay a severance if relegated?

Does a prospective new owner need the club in the Championship to buy for a cheaper price?

Does parachute payments going towards the loan have anything to do with anything?

Seems like the board are happy for us to go down.

The silence is telling and they really are stupid if they think Brendan will turn this around.

We've gambled on paying high salaries for players. Tried to move them on but they won't go due to salaries they are on. We've been hit by FFP and past losses which mean club have to tighten their belts. Not really much we can do but ride it out. Can't see how changing the manager will help.

There’s no financial gain to having world class training facilities and a stadium expansion if we are sitting in the championship. I totally  get their logic and it make sense if we  are knocking around the top of the prem but I’m questioning the wisdom of committing so much financially to infrastructure whilst the playing side is on the slide..

I don't think we did, after we missed out in 2019/20, I don't think the club genuinely thought we'd be a shoe in for top 4 again. To get Europe again, maybe so. However we never then spent in any January in recent years so it's not like we thought at that point when many points clear we could push it.

Watching match of the day this evening is an abject lesson on why we’re going to get relegated.

The intensity that even the bottom half teams play with is leagues ahead of what we are doing.

It looks like our owners thought that we were guaranteed Premier League football with this squad, even with some sales, and they could invest in the infrastructure.

It shows incredible naivety from the owners, the players on the pitch must come first. You can’t stand still or go backwards in the PL without being punished.

Whether you are building a hotel, conference centre, or training ground,

you have to keep investing in keeping the squad fresh and hungry.

Even watching Fofana this afternoon, he had so much hunger that is missing from the LCFC squad. Not because he’s better, but because he’s gone to

a squad that have said ‘oh, you’re the big new Charlie, go out there and prove it’

I have some sympathy from Rodgers from watching other teams. Every other top flight club in Europe has refreshed their squad this season, Rodgers hasn’t had a new signing since 2021 and had watched key players be sold off without replacement.

If we go down, it’s on the owners for prioritising infrastructure over the team, to too great an extent.

Even Alex Ferguson went out and bought Robin Van Persie the summer after they won the league.

The clubs long term interests……. What in the championship. It’s been a disgrace not investing in the squad. Apparently the finances are in good shape??

We won the league with the squad and backroom that Pearson put in place, and we got two 5th place finishes and an FA Cup with Claude Puel’s squad.

It seems whatever those managers play styles was, the organisation and the scouting at the club was miles above what we have now.

Rodgers is a great coach, but the behind the scenes recruitment and management has totally fallen by the wayside and the team are beyond stale and lack leadership.

If we keep Rodgers, we need a new Director of Football to come in and get the scouting and recruitment back on track, and we need 3-4 new signings in January otherwise we are going down.

Top, please act. For the sake of everything.

Without wanting to sound crass, Top’s dad built a multibillion dollar empire, and took those skills into sports ownership; identifying the key people to develop a business or project to the level you aspire too.

There was some false starts (sports is different to business), but he got there.

There is no evidence so far that Top has the same business acumen or ruthlessness needed to sustain the success that his father built.

Rodgers was a good appointment, but the support around him and the squad just isn’t there at the moment, and the club are investing in hotels and the ground to the detriment of the team. The balance of investment at the club is not correct, and we might pay a huge price for getting it wrong.

The fact is the sacking should’ve happened in the summer. It didn’t. They’ve let him continue, which to an extent is understandable. However, every defeat from now onwards falls on Top’s shoulders as much as it does BR. There is no reason after the crap shown on Thursday and the subsequent comments for him to be here. This is now significantly damaging the club.

I tend to agree, being a great man’s son does cast a large shadow, without necessarily guaranteeing a hereditary skillet to step from that shadow. A blessing and a curse, tutelage tragically cut short too. I believe they as a family will guide this club with love and care and when the time comes to sell they’ll select suitable and worthy successors :)

Who built this squad? Whose job is it to impose a playing style on these players?

A lack intensity and hunger isn't a board room issue, it's the managers job to inspire the players. Brendan has been backed in previous years, more than any manager in our history, and has fallen short. That is why we couldn't back him again this summer.

This squad is good enough for Premier League football and if we swapped Brendan for most other managers in the league we would finish comfortably mid-table. It's gone stale and he needs to go
