RYAN DEFREITAS has left Leicester City after nine-and-a-half years to become first-team performance analyst for training at Manchester City.

The role, advertised on TGG in July, will involve “delivering reliable analyses of training” to “create actionable insights for coaches and players.”

DeFreitas joined Leicester City in July 2013 as a performance analysis and recruitment intern and went on to become their Lead Academy Performance Analyst. The Foxes are currently in the process of hiring a replacement.

There were six main areas of responsibility for the Training Performance Analyst role advertised by City:

Capture and analyse all aspects of training and log all training sessions.
Create and manage output windows of best practice training databases.
Create and maintain a folder structure on opposition matches & Premier League games.
Film and code first-team matches.
Provide clips using telestration software of training & matches to illustrate tactical patterns.
Work in collaboration with the Performance Analysis team to deliver best practice insights.

Is it a coincidence that people are leaving when the club is in disarray on the field?

TBH, it sounds like mid level back room analyst/coach has applied for a job at a bigger club, had an interview and been offered the job. Congratulations to him. I’d not lose too much sleep over it.

Yes but he is also leaving for Man City. It’s a job anyone would take even in good times.

Literally my dream job lol

Do you not think it would be like if you got a job as a chocolate taster, you’d soon tire of chocolate?

Also, i hear there’s a vacancy!

I'm shocked we have a performance analyst, I bet Brendan has an automatic forward of his emails straight to the recycle bin. Like he's going to listen to some little nerd with his laptop.

I was thinking about this earlier. It's weird how we've had so much success yet nobody has poached Rudkin from us..

Would he get as much to control as he has here? He's like a one man band at LCFC.

Be careful what you wish for.

I once had my dream job as a beekeeper. No one ever tells you, you aren't supposed to crush the bees to make the honey.

My father was a beekeeper, his father was a beekeeper before him. I want to walk in their footsteps!

And their footsteps were like this, aaaaah I'm covered in bees!

What the fvck am I doing!? I'm covered in bees!

He was part of our academy leading the analysis for age groups from U8 to U23's.

Academy analysts are paid peanuts so moving on to Number 1 team in land and first team is a logical step for him.

Wouldn't read much into it at all.

Reading it again, he’s going to be a ‘training  analyst’.  You’ve got to be committed to data analysis to want to analyse what’s going on in training!

I’ll correct may first post -  not vital to us

Imagine that being such a key aspect of the role that it’s in the advertisement. Surely no more than an admin-type role. Can’t imagine it’s going to impact matters on the pitch.
