How the hell can that be a penalty but the England one yesterday was not? VAR is such bollocks.

It's not really a specific var problem is it, it's about consistency with officiating in general which has been a problem for as long as there's been football.

VAR correctly gave that penalty, the ref missed it and the VAR gave it. It was a foul in the box and it is something FIFA apparently want to clamp down on. Every major tournament there's always a major refereeing directive and something they want to focus on.

The problem is it hasn't been consistently applied and England should have got one yesterday. That's not really unique to having VAR.

The officials met after the game yesterday and were told that should have been called and similar penalties should be given going forward.

Excellent news. Need fewer wrestlers and more footballers in the box at corners.

Even as a no England fan, you have to say that one can't be a penalty without the other. If this is their line in the sand then we will see a LOT of penalties given this tournament which I'm good with as long as they are consistent but I'm not sure they will be.

Have to disagree. Putting your arms round someone is a foul!

I do agree & of all the examples, Maguire's was the clearest penalty.

I just hope they start dishing out yellow cards to those throwing themselves to the ground because they feel a defenders hand on their hip

Some of these offsides though are just lazy runs from Argentina. They're not even looking to check their runs. The Saudi line is suicidal and they're not really even playing it brilliantly. Its often crooked and someone's frequently letting it down. There's enough pace in the Argentina attack that they really can afford to just be a second more patient.

..... But that wasn't the Saudi player that was furthest back surely. There was a guy near the left back / left side CB position that was further back surely?

It's the same with the dubious Qatar offside the other day they looked like they used the wrong defender to judge the offside?

Yep - they don’t even need to be on the shoulder of the last man the line is so high. Poor forward play.
