Fazzer 7 Posted 6 March 2023 Posted 6 March 2023 What I don't get is the steady decline. What was it, 3-4 years ago we beat southampton 9-0. We beat our nemesis Arsenal home and away, and played in Europe. Yes Vardy has declined, kasper has gone, but there is no lack of quality in this squad. Well, okay Ward and Amartey aren't up to it but there's plenty of other talent. So if Rodgers could achieve results like those prior to last season why can't he now. What's happening beats me.

That team spirit which was forged in the great escape and title seasons has finally begun to cool and the personnel organically fracture as people grow old, leave, become less suitable. To some degree it was inevitable, but not to this degree, and we have proper fecked it with several wasteful windows where we lost sight of what worked for us. 2

And, we should make it life size. That will really p1ss him off when he see's 13 year old towering above his statue. 1 2

I think the squad is genuinely way worse now that it was 3-4 years ago. - Vardy and Evans, the two main leaders of the team, were genuinely two of the best players at their position in the premier league. They have fallen off of a cliff. They also arguably play in the two most important positions on the pitch. - Ricardo Pereira and James Justin were two of the best fullbacks in the premier league. Both have dealt with multiple long term injuries, and have not been the same players since. Brendan Rodgers' system requires quality attacking fullbacks to make up for the lack of wide attacking wingers this squad has always lacked. Chilwell leaving, and Luke Thomas not developing also hurt in that regard. - Our two best attackers have plateaued (Maddison and Barnes). Both have showed ability to be elite premier league goal scorers, and due to injuries, confidence, etc. have failed to take that next step in their careers. They likely need to be sold IMO. - In the last 3-4 years, the quality of our transfers out have vastly exceeded the quality of our transfers in Out: Fuchs Chilwell Fofana Maguire Schmeichel In: Daka Soumare Bertrand Vestergaard Faes Kristiansen Souttar I think it's a hard pill to swallow, but i genuinely think we have a bottom half squad in terms of talent. One of the reasons why I'm not fully "Rodgers" out is because i agree that this team needed a full on rebuild last summer. I understand, for financial reasons why that has not happened. But all we've done is delayed the inevitable. You could justifiably blame Rodgers for the transfers that have not worked out, and what he's done with the team in terms of morale/tactics. But you can't convince me that we have a good squad, and he's just not getting the best out of them. IMO, we need a complete rebuild from the bottom up. I don't know if Rodgers is the man for the job. I certainly wouldn't be sad if he left. But I think managers are vastly overrated by fans/the media, and the most important factor in success is how talented your players are. Right now, we don't have a team capable of finishing in the top 6 spots. It's probably going to take 2-3 years to get back to that point, even if we rebuild properly. 1 2

Master Fox Posted 10 March 2023 Posted 10 March 2023 I think Brendan deserves at chance at managing a ‘big club’ we’ll be sad to see him go but I think Tottenham Hotspur would be a perfect fit for him.
oxtonfox Posted 10 March 2023 Posted 10 March 2023 (edited) The top six fawning pundits think Brendan has done well, punching above his weight and competing with their F1 teams with a humble mini. Maybe we’re being over critical of him. He’s won two trophies and deserves support for one dodgy season. Edited 10 March 2023 by oxtonfox

I wouldn't mind being the other half belonging to the forelorn hope lot, so long as we had a manager, that would - could put out a PL performing team, where fans are proud to call our name, and proud of our performances. First the basics...then one can build the aspirations, which then one builds then & competes for higher ambitions..top 8 1
Sir Shep Posted 11 March 2023 Posted 11 March 2023 What's the excuses? Is it that the players boycotted the game in solidarity with our Gary? Surely no one can defend him now?
