The thing is, yes, interim caretaker - it’s 8 games, we have a lot to lose but also were heading down any way.

Problem is, with the asst. managers, this is a long term appointment. All Smith has to do is deliver one or two results and this board will hire him on a long term contract. If he keeps us up then he definitely will. That isn’t the best for Leicester City. It’s a major step backwards.

It won't be a step backwards if they keep us up this season

Suddenly he’s the best appointment we could have made? I’m happy to back him and give him a chance but honestly. Literally the bottom of the barrel. The flip flap on here is hilarious.

Yes they were. They'd spent next to fk all on players again and lost about 6 games they should have won. He's inheriting a squad here nothing like as bad as that and with Tielemans coming back in the next week or two.

They have my backing because frankly we need them to succeed and they can't be any worse than SAS and the mess we're in.

Norwich were dead and buried from October, everyone was predicting they would get relegated. Incidentally, when they sacked Smith, they were higher in the championship than they are currently.

It will be if they run the rebuild. I can live with this team on a short term basis not long term.

Just come to terms with it. The key to happiness.

It's sensible appointment for the situation we're in and the lack of options we're faced with.

So long as the board can actually be ruthless at the end of the season and sever ties whatever the outcome.

Why would you if they did well? There'd have to be a really good alternative available and I don't currently see one. I certainly wouldn't change it for Potter if all was going well.

As much as I don’t like JT - at least there is a leader in the dressing room. Someone with passion and knows how to defend. May be a coach, but that is something that has been missing.

We don't know, do we, is the thing. Maybe so, maybe no. But usually if the intent is to give him 2-3 years, that's what they'd offer.

With this kind of deal, it means he at least has to impress enough to beat anyone who fancies the job in July.

On the other hand, maybe he has a clause that hasn't been made public depending on our survival.

But allowing him to have a team he feels comfortable with isn't an awful thing, as well as bringing in someone who wasn't a great full time manager for us, at least understands the culture of the club from the time before Rodgers.

Yeah convince yourself he will be a good replacement. Think about the calibre he’s managed, championship villa and Norwich, tells how far behind LCFC is right now.

Where did I say he'd be a good replacement? Although to the end of the season he's a better option than Stowell and Sadler. I was making the point he's his own man and not stupid, he'll be aware of Vardy not being the Vardy of old and I'm sure Shakespeare telling him to play him won't sway him to do so.

The more i look at that trio the more confident I am. I know Smith failed at Norwich but our squad is arguably the most talented he has ever worked with.

This, for god sake.

it’s scraping the barrel. They’ll sell it as Shakey’s back. JT is a winner (ignoring he is a racist) and let’s get behind Dean. I’ll back them but in reality, it’s bottom pickings.

Dean Smith is our manager next year - regardless of our finishing position.

Obviously Dean Smith is not who we would have normally chosen but we are are not in a "normal" situation.

Without having much knowledge of Dean Smith I can find some positive aspects:

1. assuming this is settled tonight then there's time for him to take over before Man C which is a big plus

2. Signs are that we might get him on a contract for just the rest of this season

3. Based on my memory of his Villa team I would say that he will instill aggression and belief in the team, I see him as a pragmatic manager who would play to the strengths of the individual players, I think he has a fair chance to unite the squad, probably fairly astute with team selection and game management (and more nous in manipulating the ref).  If just some of these things turn out to be correct then it will be an improvement.

4. Assuming he brings Shakespeare with him  -  we haven't had a decent training regime since Shakespeare left.

5. The possibility of  Terry joining must surely be a positive as he would also add aggression, toughness and determination ... and surely he should be able to sort out our (lack of) defensive organisation.

OK, I can see that my glasses are very blue-tinted, but we have to claw hope from somewhere. :scarf:

We have been so poor lately not sure we can get out of this whoever comes in. Spine of team has been lacking all season. Schmeichel gone, Evans injured, Fofana gone. Had to rely on Amartey and new signings Faes and Souttar. No consistancy in midfield playing people out of position and Vardy past it now with no one to replace his goals. Quality is permanent and I'm afraid we just aren't good enough especially at the back.

I'm not exactly buzzing but 3 new guys who will hopefully be able to share the massive task ahead. If they can get the players onside early and support/rollock/motivate the various groups of underperformers, then why not. Could've been worse and effectively 3 new leaders (taking the club total to...3 leaders) could help cultivate the siege mentality we so badly need.

Given our current owners approach to managers, if he keeps us up, he gets the job, he also has this “credit in the bank” we heard so much about with Rodgers. Where do we go with Smith ? Realistically. Staying up will be great but with this team, we’ll be right back there with a weaker team and an owner reluctant to do anything again.
