For me a midfield like a defense is only good when players are on the same page, like the Kante/drinkwater partnership that worked so well. I think Soumare is getting unfair criticism, I think he's decent but in a specific role, he needs players around him that work to the teams strengths, and we just haven't found that formula.

Is he leaving? And for free??

Looks like it. Either he didn't want to play in the Championship or we are really having to cut costs. I'd have preferred to keep him at the club.

Or the fact that he’s made only 98 appearances in 7 years, would mean it would have been another waste of money to give him a new contract.

He deserved more game-time than what he had. Peak Ndidi was better, mind you, but over the last 2-3 years, Mendy should have been first choice CDM as Ndidi's performances started to spiral.

I don't disagree that he should have played more. But being a little better than someone that has been terrible recently, doesn't necessarily mean he deserved a new contract.

Thanks Mendy. Good pro. Gave his all. Tidy and hard working. Criminally under used by Rogers who has proved himself a clown. Before anyone says he won the FA cup history will show that he had Puels players at his disposal and a great dressing room.

So you are basically saying Pearson and Puel deserve more credit than Ranieri and Rodgers for everything we have achieved in the last 8 years? A strange logic really.

I agree, somewhat. He was clearly good at what he did but was overlooked a lot of the time. Mendy was not wired the same way as Ndidi and Soumaré, was a little more forward thinking and we really needed that little more positive play in the middle of the park. The other two just played us into trouble, caused unnecessary pressure and in worse cases, goals conceded. One of many managerial mistakes this season.

Thanks Papy, you’ve been a great servant to the club and although you didn’t get the chances you deserved, you handled it like a professional and we couldn’t ask any more than that.

Wish you well for the future for you and your family, we really needed more players like you in the club, if we had we might not be in this mess.

He has played 98 times over 7 years under 4 different managers.

He is 30 years old.

Our biggest issue has been keeping average players far too long.

I’d have preferred Mendy to Soumare as an option next year. Can’t see anybody coming in and paying for Soumare or taking on his wages though.

Mendy is the classic the less he plays the better he becomes.
Let’s be honest, he wasn’t very good at anything really, he wasn’t great going forward, he wasn’t a great tackler, didn’t read the game particularly well and wasn’t a great passer of the ball.

He came in when we were playing shite and passed the ball sideways.

There is a reason he played under so many managers and non of them really fancied him.

I wish him well, but let’s not rewrite history on the lad.

People must be seeing something I don't in him. Has a decent game one or two times a season, that's when he's fit to play.

ideal stopgap for his position if we are serious about getting promoted. would have kept him without a doubt. very good backup and one of our best players last year at pl level

Pearson built a side and culture and Ranieri took it on a step. He struggled the following season. I will be forever a fan of his for what he achieved. Puel built a good side and Rogers benefited from that. No doubt about it. I have lost respect for Rogers.

I know people on here don't like giving Rodgers any credit, but to be in the top four for almost two seasons (I know we bottled it twice), was definitely overachieving. Add to that an FA Cup win and you have to give him a lot of credit. We all know what has happened since then and the mistakes that have been made, but to try and suggest Puel deserves all the credit is ignoring the facts. There were no signs we was about to challenge the top 4 under Puel.

He said that Puel built the side that Rodgers benefited from, so judge dick head Rodgers on what our next permanent manager walks into and then stick the credit for Rodgers where the sun don’t shine.

What a strange way to determine if a manager was successful. I guess that makes Fergie a bad manager as he didn't leave a great team for Moyes!

Fergie built numerous great Man United Teams, he also won the league in his last season with that shit United team, Rodgers got us relegated. Nice try lad.
