Not the funniest I've seen, but Kentucky Fried Movie had me in stiches at the time.

Never seen or heard of it since. So much so, I Googled it before posting in case I had imagined it.

Such a quality film…. I changed my name in my wife’s phone to Big Jim Slade

Need to watch it again!

I think the point that this thread throws up the same few movies again and again proves that films aren’t that funny really.

not too many hugely successful comedies

“Comedy” films just aren’t funny, they’re the celluloid equivalent of someone claiming to have a good sense of humour - inevitably anything but.

Classics of old, Marx Brothers, Ealing comedies, Peter Sellers and the like can still raise a titter. Some of the Carry Ons and Laurel & Hardy are good value. But I’m pressed to think of anything in the last few decades other than Four Lions other than horror genre flicks that are deeply imbued with a deprecating humour, Cabin in the Woods being a fine example.

Aside from them, Home Alone 1 & 2 were classic slapstick masterpieces.
