A sound enough bloke for sure and honest with it but ultimately he wasn't good enough to keep us up when it was still reasonably possible to do so, especially given our slightly more favourable run in on paper to those around us when he first came in, even though it wasn't ideal. Whether he would've kept us up had he replaced Rodgers with immediate effect remains debatable as in both the Sadler and Stowell caretaker games v Villa and Bournemouth it was just one individual error (each from Ndidi and Maddison that resulted in gifting the opposition the winning goal in each game and which cost us both of those games by a one goal margin), when two draws from them would've kept us up, even if only on goal difference!.

Some of his poor decisions were the reason why we ended up getting relegated for his eight games in charge though re team selections in the games that really mattered (esp. not shoring up the defence by not playing Souttar v Everton). The obvious games were Leeds and Everton where we should have taken six points to give ourselves a chance and not have to rely on things like winning at Newcastle or on Bournemouth getting something at Everton.

I think he could have done okay here next season. I hope Maresca does better than okay.

Smith was professional for us.  I respect him.

He didn't get everything right and he didn't achieve the goal.

But my god it was a lot more enjoyable than any point in the previous two seasons. Nice to have honest communication from a manger rather than listening to BR who was full of his own agenda, lack of professionalism and self importance.

No hard feelings towards Deano. With the exception of Fulham, which was a disaster, there wasn't another game in that run where I felt he'd got it too wrong. Possibly Liverpool, who I think we gave far too much respect.

Everton's the other one people have pointed out, but let's make no bones - Madders' pathetic penalty was more pivotal than how we set up second half. Felt like Deano kept chasing the 3rd, which I don't begrudge. We'd have had plenty on here absolutely livid if we'd decided to sit on the 2-1 at that point and still conceded.

Leeds, dragged ourselves back into it. Vardy makes that run for his brace half a second later and we're celebrating a 2-1 reversal, with the right subs made.

Newcastle away - bloody brilliant defensive performance against a dangerous side. Tottenham tried to play expansively against them and were 5-0 down in 20 minutes - and but for an inch either side, Castagne could have again sent us home with a shock win.

Man City - it was bold. Crap first half, kept at it and in the end a respectable result that didn't harm the GD too badly.

West Ham, Wolves, we did the job.

Overall, it wasn't the worst tenure. Just a few unfortunate moments, and maybe a lack of the gambler's ambition we needed at times to really get over the line. We were a poisoned chalice from day one, and I think the three amigos gave it a go, and made going to the footy at least somewhat enjoyable for the first time in two years.

I wish Deano well.

Yes, all the best Deano. I think he could have done a job in the championship to be honest and get us to top six. I have to thank him for taking the job last season when everyone was saying no thanks.

Biggest miss was the Everton game which we needed to win and ended up lucky not to lose.

Wasn’t his fault we went down but what are we thanking him for exactly?

I think mainly for not being Brendan Rodgers and not being an absolute bellend - which really shows how far Rodgers pushed us as fans that that is something to be lauded - but it weirdly feels like it is after so long of feeling constantly derided and alienated by our manager!

Yeah but he was brought in to keep us up and he failed. He wasn’t brought in to try and not be like Brendan. We don’t have anything to thank him for. Nothing against the guy but not for me

No, I don't necessarily disagree with you really, just trying to explain why I think a fair few people do feel inclined to thank him.

I don’t think it was the impossible job that many on here are quick to state it was, just to pile more muck on brendan.

We were saveable but just like the players, Delano wasn’t good enough when it mattered.

He tried his best but his appointment goes down as a bad one.

I think we'd have stayed up if he'd been given the Bournemouth game.
