50% of signings successful then, that’s actually a very good window.

Yes, as I started going through I did realise and have acknowledged that. But as I say, we still made some awful signings (Coady and Winks) and had we used that money wisely, we would have been much better placed.

But as I also said, even the good signings have/had some glaring issues of the nature we need to address (mentality). Now that’s fine for your Fatawu’s and Mavididi’s but overall, as a window, we were lacking. Hence why we dropped right off and nearly threw promotion away.

But the other point was, people make out like Maresca’s tenure was 100% perfect. When it wasn’t.

This point keeps coming up - we have paid too much to too many on contracts that are too long. But if we hadn’t stretched to those players’ demands, fans would be turning on the board/owner saying we need more backing. If we’d lost out on, say, Winks because we didn’t want to pay him enough or Skipp because we didn’t want to pay the transfer fee, then at the time it looks like we’ve lost out on a decent player who could do a job for us. There’s always an element of the unknown with transfers, but you can’t put escape clauses in or contracts become worthless to the player.

Our problem has been, on so many occasions, that we created the perfect storm of buying very ordinary players and putting them on ridiculous contracts, lumbering ourselves with said highly paid duffers for the entirety of their contracts as we slide down into mediocrity.  I mean who signs Bertrand, Vestergaard or Wout Faes when you're chasing Champion's League?

If we had pushed the boat out to sign top quality players with the lure of high wages that would have been a different scenario.

100%

Our spend on wages was not reflective with the transfer fee of 90% of our signings.

We shopped in the bargain bin but then paid the player an elite salary, terrible business acumen when say it that bluntly.

So as useless and unsettling he’s been under RvN and Marti, Winks was absolutely instrumental in our first promotion. It’s on us for not upgrading when we were promoted. We were run like a local leisure centre on the biggest stage in the world.

I’m not saying he wasn’t. Or he was good for much of the season, not all.

But I believe we could have brought in someone for half the fee and wages, with a better attitude who would have offered just as much. If we were smarter with our scouting and a well ran club.

My issue is we overpaid (fee and wages) and with the attitude, overall he has been poor business. As was Coady. Mavididi has been solid business for the outlay, Fatawu and Hermansen better than solid.

But still issues with the mentality. Lack of real leaders and winners. Jordan James, albeit on loan currently, rectifies this. And even Skipp as well. Will we end up thanking Cooper?

Cooper knew what was wanted and how best to manage it in a desperate situation.

He was a football man who was never liked here because:- He was ex Forest. He had funny eyes.We thought we were better than we were.

When we are promoted next season after the clear out of the long term dross left over from Rogers, we will thank Cooper

I agree. Skipp is looking good now and BDR is contributing, bear in mind he was a free transfer. Bilal will have made us profit. Ayew at least was only 2 years. I don’t see long term damage from Cooper’s time like Rodgers (Daka, Soumare, Faes and Vestergaard).

Have you forgotten that we are playing in a different league to the one that they were signed to play in and that they contributed next to nothing in that league?

Or, are you saying that Cooper took Enzo's newly promoted team, accepted relegation from day one and signed players he hoped might 'contribute' the following season in The Championship?

He spent :£65m in that window!

None of that, purely about long term damage like I said. And they will have ended up contributing regardless of the circumstances (only contributing after being relegated).

More a reflection on the fact I thought that was gong to be Skipp, until 2029 and BDR until 2027 were going to be like Daka and Soumare, draining resources and getting no return on that. So it is a positive comment that it is good to see they have become key performers over recent games.

Yes you can point to the level and yes, you can rightly point to the fee for Skipp. But the less genuine deadwood, the better. Most of it will be gone by summer at the latest and on current performance, it’s only really Faes (2027) that is a major issue beyond this season. Vestergaard and Thomas even if not the one with a major attitude issue, need upgrading though.

Good for him. He doesn't have to lower himself and make a 100 mile commute to grace the club with his presence. He can stick to posting his shitey drinks on Instagram and pining after a manager that has long since forgotten about his existence.

Well, if that's the case, he needs to be on reporting duties only to fulfil his contractual obligations.

8am every four weekdays and matchday - all at Belvoir Drive. Then has to clock off at 12noon.

I imagine the PFA would be in touch
