Scotch Posted 27 August 2023 Posted 27 August 2023 Probably going to get a bit of stick for this but I think someone like Jacob Greaves would be a better shout if VK leaves. Not only would he give us depth at CB but being left footed and having the ability to play LB, he also gives us depth in the Doyle role which would free up Doyle to play in the central CB slot. Maybe not as good as THB and with a lower ceiling but perhaps more suited to our system and cheaper. 2

THB arguably cheaper. 1

Thb is England U21 captain too. Will be knocking on the door for the senior team soon. No doubt Man City will have a ridiculously low buy back clause in there somewhere. Tbh out of the U21 team, thb, Trafford and Colwill probably make the step up. Currently I can't see any others doing so. 2

Currently I can't see any others doing so. Man City don't tend to put that arbitrary buy back clauses in, usually about triple what they sell for which is fairly reasonable IMO. Buy for £12m, buy back for £35-40m is fine with me. 1
JimJams Posted 27 August 2023 Posted 27 August 2023 And just buy their next young CB with it and rinse n repeat. 1

Drink Water Posted 27 August 2023 Posted 27 August 2023 Lets get this one through the door, a good break from all the loan signings we've been making.

If we played with a conventional 3 cbs 2 for cover wouldn’t really be an issue but Doyle is basically playing as a LB so we’d need either another cb capable of doing so or a player who plays as a full back capable of slotting in at cb like JJ… so now it’s 2 cbs covering the starting 2 (that’s assuming we sign THB and don’t sell Vestergaard or Faes) plus we’ve still got Souttar on the books… I get squad depth will be massive but at the same time we’re not a team playing in Europe so having such depth at cb (a position managers tend not to rotate) seems excessive to me
Guest Sideshow Faes Posted 27 August 2023 Posted 27 August 2023 (edited) We need at least 5 centre backs for the way we are playing Edited 27 August 2023 by Sideshow Faes
Simonb Posted 27 August 2023 Posted 27 August 2023 Could always give one of them a run out up front, strikers ain't scoring anyway 🤭

So we play 46 games instead of 38 and the earlier rounds of the league cup.

The point being you need much more quality when it comes to strength in depth when competing in the prem alongside European football…. Like I said having 4/5 cbs all good enough to be starting competing for 2 spots isn’t going to be happening in the championship imo, JJ will cover for/compete with Doyle and Riccy P so it will be 2 from Vestergaard, Faes, Coady and THB if we sign him plus we’ve still got Souttar and Ben Nelson…. So going back to my original post I’d be surprised to see THB coming in as a replacement for Castagne I would’ve thought we’d have to shift 1 or 2 cbs from the list above if we were to bring him in
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 28 August 2023 Posted 28 August 2023 Personally think Enzo will play a huge role in getting THB to join. Can see it being enough to persuade him. 2
