Just about remember these

Just slightly before my time.  I do have a strong memory of standing behind the driver holding on to the long rail and pretending I was driving it.  My mum told me to sit down, mind you I was 23 at the time!  No, I was probably nearer 8 or 9. 😂

I feel like you see all the other Spice Girls but she never seems to pop up these days. Hope you're well if you're reading, Mel

I am, and I hope you and your 1yr old daughter are doing well.

Not sure the times were any simpler in terms of hardship actually happening.

Rather, we just didn't get to know about a lot of it. Which I guess is simpler in its own way.

I think those hardships made us stronger, more resilient, more responsible, less entitled.

Simpler in terms of fewer inputs, less noise, less distraction, fewer options.

Maybe ignorance was bliss...

For the ones that made it, certainly. Those who didn't sadly don't now have any voices we can interpret to offer an opinion to the contrary. :(

Totally agree with the second and third lines. For the longest time I thought knowledge could only be a blessing, but the more I've accumulated makes me think it is at least equally a curse. Wouldn't have it any other way, though.

I Grew Up In The 1970s - When we collected green shield stamps… | Facebook

I remember being the one who had to stick reams of the things in the book.

A full book got you about £2 in value to spend at a participating outlet. You had to spend sixpence (2 1/2p) to get one stamp.

Iirc, there was a catalogue that included items you could 'buy' with your Green Shield stamp books.

It would show an item, alongside how many completed books you needed.

A b&w 12in TV would cost about 500 books.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says "That moment when you are tuning and the crackling stops and you hear the magic wo......."RADIO LUXEMBOURG""

Then it keeps fading out and in.

I had a small radio that I used to put under my pillow to listen to this new fangled music station.

I had to avoid tuning into the fishing forecast. Fastnet, Dogger, Viking. Rockall, etc.

Then occasionally you'd get some weird morse code bleeps going on. I used to imagine I was spying on some Russian fleet sending coded messages to their military.

The shipping forecast - one of the best things on radio ever.
I had a small bright yellow transistor with a single earphone and I’d listen to Luxembourg or Caroline until the small hours when sleep caught up with me.
I used to steal batteries from my dads clock whenever mine ran out

Edit: This one

Reminds me of taking a radio into school on a Monday so we could all listen to the FA Cup 3rd round draw on Radio 2

Number stations. Some are still going.

We now go over the Lancaster Gate, the FA's headquarters, for the draw of the next round of the FA Cup. Bert Millichip and Ted Croker will draw the balls - and then it started. They got on with it. None of the tedious razzmatazz of todays draw.

Indeed. Yet despite the razzamatazz, it seemed so much more exciting back then.
