I think whoever is made leader out of the two won't be leader come the next election anyway. Party leaders have a limited lifespan. I think the current lot have already p*ssed off the elderly, I'll wait for the fallout of the budget - and unless they are successful over the next few years they will be out due to lack of popularity, just look at what has just happened to the conservatives. Labour aren't popular, they received a lower vote share than any party forming a post war majority government - look at the opinon polls already 100 days in? It won't need to be a massive success of any opposition to get in next time, in fact the tactic would be to watch the self implosion.

You say all that but 4 years is a long time in politics, at least in the context of the amount of change we have experienced in recent years.

Agreed - but I think my first point stands, whoever becomes leader will just be the warm up act for a few years time Edited 10 October 2024 by Tommy G
bovril Posted 10 October 2024 Posted 10 October 2024 I don't really follow these things that closely but why is Badenoch seen as a really bad candidate? I don't think she's especially bright but she seems quite normal compared to e.g. Truss or Johnson and says a lot of things that seem popular across the country.

She’s Farage without the charisma who just tries to say immigration and identity politics are to blame for everything and offers easy answers. Remember in the last leadership election she was quoting Truss herself with the endless repetitions of “the zero sum game of identity politics” being her favourite catch phrase. urban.spaceman Posted 10 October 2024 Posted 10 October 2024 Me when there's a new story shared with glaringly obvious and hilarious puns but the story is actually very serious: 1

My guess is the BoE base rate will be lower in six months than it is now. 1

She was caught out in multiple lies before the election on various things. She doesn't seem to care about procedure or accountability, and has expressed some pretty batshit opinions on things we all take for granted, like maternity pay. She's anti-worker and pro-anything businesses want to do. She's a Johnson/Trump type conservative. Here she is last year being caught out by Hoyle: She will be an utter humiliation as leader, as will Jenrick, which is why I'm pretty happy... 1 1

I genuinely didn't know much about her other than she appears to be quite popular amongst conservatives and the couple of times I'd seen her speak she seemed like a decent enough communicator compared to the last two leaders.
