I keep getting dragged in to conversations about moderation on FoxesTalk, I need to clarify, I do **** all outside of TransferTalk and even there it's very light-touch. I'm not a mod, I don't have full mod powers and I don't want them.

So speaking not as a "member of staff" but as a fairly argumentative forum user that's been here (possibly depressingly) for 20 odd years and 66k posts without ever being banned or even seriously warned, my one prevailing piece of wisdom for anyone that doesn't want to get a ban:

Just don't be a twat.

It blows my mind how many grown adults lack the social awareness to know when something's gotten a bit awkward, has gone on a bit far or for too long or is just winding everyone up.

Like, all jokes aside, why the **** did it have to turn in to a meme to please not bring the Israel/Palestine conflict in to TransferTalk? The internet is a massive place, you can go wherever you want and debate global politics all you want, why do you need to repeatedly ignore requests to keep it down and keep banging on about a war thousands of miles away when discussing a footballer to whom it's tenuously relevant? "Tehehe we're stressing out Finners, lets keep talking about it". Why? Grow up.

If you've been on FoxesTalk for more than two minutes (so, fair enough to @Torquay Gunner who is relatively new) you'll know that @Mark has always been hesitant to have political conversation on this forum because it just always, always, always - without fail - turns to ugly bitching eventually. I'm sorry but if you're going to seriously deny that you're either being hugely disingenuous or massively socially incompetent.

Every time he yields to the constant bitching and opens up a General News or Politics thread it eventually slides the same way, with people being snide at each other and mass reports from loads of users constantly snitching on each other spamming Mark's inbox with requests. So he sighs, deals with it and all the crying starts about that.

And loads of you get shockingly personal about it, as well. Mark runs this forum as a hobby and has done for decades, a forum that you all apparently love. Yet depressingly many of you entitled ****s are happy to start throwing personal abuse at him, making conspiratorial judgements about his politics or his personal opinions, coming in to this subforum and acting like such massive ****ing children. DEMANDING answers for why a post was deleted when 99% of the forum could tell you exactly why without you asking. You're not really asking, you know deep down why shit gets moderated, you're just looking to pick a fight about it.

Honestly, what is it about the internet that just turns everyone insane? Really bright, intelligent, lovely, reasonable people like TPH, Daggers and now most recently Bilo having complete and total meltdowns because a post or two got deleted or they got put on the naughty step for a minute on the internet? Mark ever does give me a temporary ban or delete a few of my posts, first thing I'd do is just laugh it off and go and do something else for a bit. How do you get to the point of taking it so ****ing personally?

I'm well aware this post will seem ironic because I no doubt sound quite frustrated (because I am a tiny bit) but as soon as I'm done, which is about 5 seconds from now, I'm going to go downstairs, make a cup of tea, forget about it and do something else.

Are you going to have any biscuits with your tea?

Also to add, as someone who has dabbled in political debate on the general forum Mark has removed some of my posts which, on reflection he was entirely right to do.  He didn't ban me or give me a warning point but I did take it as a shot across the  bows and backed off.  The wailing at times suggests the man is some sort of tyrant.

Since I haven't bothered because frankly it just seems pointless to argue with strangers on the internet and one of the reasons I quit other social media.

Some of the sense of entitlement and snivelling on here is laughable.  Move on, you aren't owed an excuse. Frankly it's mark's baby and he can do whatever the fvck he wants with it.

I've sent Finnegan a DM, an email, a strongly worded postcard, a carrier pigeon, and a telegram delivered by a Victorian child in mourning attire - demanding an explanation as to why he's barging in here with coherent, insightful posts about human behavior.

People might start thinking rationally and worst of all - it could completely ruin the sacred tradition of Gen Chat's spectacular, slow-motion flounce-offs.

This thread is in shambles. Explanation please, when you're ready.

I made a post in the General News thread criticising the arrest of the blokes who projected an image of Trump and Epstein onto Windsor Castle as an infringement of freedom of speech.

Ironically, my post seems to have been deleted.

Naturally, I'm as cool as The Fonz about this. Indeed, @Finneganesque, I am currently sucking on a caramel wafer.

Would be curious to know why that post was deleted, though? :dunno:

Clearly not because of the image, as @leicsmac's original post is still boldly on display. Because of criticism of the arrest or the Malicious Communications Act? Because of parallels I drew with other communications critical of public figures (Savile, Thatcher, Corbyn, Tory->Reform defecting MP, Mandelson, Farage)? Citing too many boring examples, perhaps?

Would be helpful to know, so as to avoid recidivism....

Why is there reluctance/refusal to explain the reasons, or is it because it's just too time-consuming to explain to everyone who asked why their comments have been removed?

This is possibly why the likes of Bilo etc have left in recent times.

I got banned from general news thread for posting a link to an interview with Raja Miah MBE, a man who i deeply admire for his couragious work on the grooming gangs, being the father of a 14 year old daughter, something thats close to my heart, I cant seem to get an explanation of why I'm banned, I hadn't said anything i thought would break forum rules, so its a little bit upsetting when I have seen this week some comments on the late Charlie Kirk. I dont think I was being a twat, but if I was, just give me a warning to what I was doing wrong.
