Understand the point on his lack of on the ball influence but you're comparing Apples (Skipp) to Oranges (Winks). His role whilst the deepest is to cover defensively and help move the ball on when he can, whereas Winks' was to dictate play. Reality is, he's having far more influence on the game than Winks has been doing this season, by doing his main job

I haven’t compared him to Winks. I just think with the ‘water carrier’ or enforcer role that he picks up alongside the creative JJ I think he could do more, show for the ball more. I realise there are other areas we need to strengthen which is why I suggested Braybrooke. I think Page could do it too tbf but he’s so young that it would be unfair to expect him to do that role yet.

The more I watch Marti’s setup, the more I feel Skipp needs some help tbh. 
 

Our defensive data is crap for a reason, one reason imo is how vulnerable we can look on transition. 
 

Numerous times last night, Jordan James was getting caught too far forward, basically playing like a number 10, which then left a massive space for Skipp to try and defend it by himself. 
 

We don’t need a regular starter as such, but it’s glaringly obvious we need a proper defensive midfielder who can start some games or come on in others. Not replacing Ndidi’s attributes in the summer was criminal imo.

Seems to have nailed the art of smashing into someone without conceding a free kick or getting booked! Great to see as a fan 

 

I thought he was done here like 95% of people did, fair play to the lad for taking his opportunity and with that and the run of games you can see the confidence coming back into his game - the next step in my view for him is to try and break the lines more with his passes into JJ/BDR or the space behind for the wingers to run into

Can we stop overrating Skipp now after another anonymous performance. We need a central midfielder alongside JJ almost as much as we need a left back.

He's spent most of the game covering for Thomas or being overran. He isn't and wasn't the problem.

Eh? He was about the only player that actually tried today. None of his teammates trying or being able to pass a football are his fault. Him and Nelson the only performances at an ok standard.

We have Bob Reid doing zilch leaving Skipp and JJ overrun and as the previous poster says, most of Skipp (and Nelson's) workload is doing Luke Thomas's job for him.

Reid could also argue that Skipp wasn’t helping him! Stop giving him a free pass. He’s almost as poor as Thomas and equally as bad as Reid.

What? Probs our best player tonight. I know that’s not saying much, but steady on the ball and some important interceptions. Him and Ricky the only ones half decent. The sub made no sense.

Because Marti is clueless. Stephy, as an example, has been dreadful, BDR done nothing. Both should have come off ahead of Skipp for me.

This is no support of Marti but if you can honestly say that Skipp has played well today then I’m watching a different match. A midfielder is an absolutely key player. They can’t be anonymous even if they are performing the water carrier role. Skipp is anonymous.

Marti is poor, we have no centre forward, our wingers are malfunctioning, Luke Thomas is out of his depth. All these are true and can and do exist alongside the other truth that is Oliver Skipp simply hasn’t been good enough since he came here 18 months ago other than Derby away and Ipswich at home this season. Two games in 18 months.

You were talking about his performance today and used the manager's decision making to back up your argument which isn't very credible. Been crap most of his time here but if you think he's only had 2 games recently where he's 'been good enough', then that's just silly (almost as silly as us paying £20m+ for him)

What other good games has he had then? He’s anonymous. Carried week in week out by JJ.

Is anyone still clinging on to their irrational dislike of the lad, all because of a fee over which he had no control? 

 

He's a very likeable player. And we saw a rare 9/10 performance today. Haven't seen any of our players put in a 90min performance in a long time, at any level.
