Has Skippy ever done a reaction test? I swear he plays with lag or high ping. He so often seems to tackle or intercept a second after he the ball has gone. We desperately need James back.

Whatever Rowett is doing it is working. Skipp is playing well in a team with Winks. Never thought I’d say that.

Skipp doesn’t influence the game enough for me as a senior central midfielder, particularly in a two. In that role you’ve got to dominate. Things break up around him or pass him by.

I agree. I try so hard to find positives in him being here. He is a liability tracking back in and around our goal and offers little offensively. He has been breaking things up better and improved his retention and passing but the like of jordan james and Mukasa come straight in and eclipse him. How much was he. I’d bring on page or the like. We need to go for wins.

Think it was him who made that incredible block in the final few minutes.

He’s made steady improvements this season, maybe we’re starting to see the version of Oli Skipp that Norwich fans did.

You really don’t rate him do you! Another game where you’re finding fault with him, but to most of us he had a good game.
As I said before, he’s a water carrier who gives 100% - just what we need right now.

Hope you cheer up a bit and try to enjoy the last 2 good results at 2 very difficult away grounds.

I applaud his effort, I really do but if you watch that game again, he’s beaten often in a one to one situation and from an attacking perspective he offers very little. We can’t afford a player that is so one dimensional in a central pairing of two. He has to offer more than just hustle and bustle and water carrying, particularly when a lot of that hustle and bustle other than those two great blocks at the end was unsuccessful. JJ also offers 100% but has much more to his game. When he’s fit it’s a no brainer for me. A midfield ‘6’ pairing of Winks and JJ with Skipp an impact sub.

If you ever wanted evidence of bias clouding people's judgement, this thread is it tonight. Fantastic performance. Yes, he was a crap signing in terms of the value and the type of player we needed last year, but if you take that out of it, he's been very good this year. Generally the decent performances we've had have been when he's been paired up with James, but tonight the first time him and Winks looked good together.

Bias clouding people’s judgement works both ways. I’m not alone on here in seeing that despite fabulous effort, Skipp is an issue in such a key central role in the team.

He's not an issue though. As crap as we've still been, the best performances in that midfield have come from JJ and Skipp, collectively and individually. It's a totally fair observation to say that he doesn't dictate games or dominate the middle of the park but equally, that's not his game. He brings a lot more stability and graft to the team that any of the others do. Generally speaking, when he hasn't played we've looked a lot more exposed/overrun.

Acknowledging he was a hideous signing on the context and awful value for money, whilst crediting a huge upturn in performance is hardly the display of bias? Slagging him off for a poor performance last night when it was quite the opposite, and if nothing else, those blocks/headers at the end should be overriding that feeling; that is clearly bias.

If the whole team had shown effort  all season we would be in the top half of the table.

Talent alone doesn't win football matches.

Running and effort is so unrated.

You are obviously  too young too have watched Ali Mauchlen  or Neil Lennon like Skipp they were very similar  players but always put in a shift

I am more than old enough to remember both players. 🤣Mauchlen was limited, probably more so than Skipp but an absolute animal in the tackle. Lennon was a better footballer than Skipp is. He was a natural leader, he had creativity to go with the destructive side of his game and was comfortable on the ball.

Running and effort is better when that running and effort is combined with talent. In midfield Skipp has a challenge. JJ puts as much effort in as him but is a better footballer. Same can be said about Winks since he was brought back into the team.

Which is all well when JJ is fit.

Winks rarely if ever has had the opportunity to play with JJ next to him. Earlier in the season JJ was used as a 10. Skipp’s had the opportunity to play James was deeper, Winks had been binned by Marti and James pretty much carried the whole team. Playing James alongside Winks as 6’s with Mukasa ahead has to be the best formula for winning games surely?
