He looked proper gutted at the final whistle, unsure what to read into that

Probably because he had a couple of chances to win it and in his youthful excitement, was disappointed not to have.

I said the same. I reckon they’ll struggle a fair bit.

They'll lose at least one big player, won't be able to build the squad depth they need due to PSR or adequately replace said big name player and it's hard to see how the manager-chairman relationship ever fully recovers from what happened at the end.

They will probably lose Gibbs-White, and a lot of their energy in midfield with him, possibly one of their big two at the back and be forced to choose between either replacing one of them with a big name of equivalent quality(hard to do with PSR restrictions and no UCL football) or do what they did in 22-23 and bring in a bus load of pony for depth.

Slow start, do OK against the dross in either the UEL or UECL but come up short against the bigger beasts and NES is under pressure by January with them languishing in the bottom half and/or out of Europe.

Monga's potential is ludicrous. To be doing what he's doing when he's barely started his GCSEs is incredible.

If we can ease him in next season, who knows? He might just be a precocious talent everyone's talking about in a couple of years.

And this is why he will be at a top club, they will all be offering him the world and we’ll be offering him the championship

Probably cus he missed a fairly simple chance that would likely have been the winner.

I have a family link to someone who used to coach our U16's, and he told me that when we tried to keep Trey, we offered him a decent contract, but what sold Liverpool to him, was the path they laid out in his development to the first team. Hopefully we've learned our lesson.

Sounds so illogical doesn't it, but sadly it isn't. The pathway to a make a handful of appearances for us is far more obscure than it is at a Man City/Liverpool etc. Hopefully all this game time for Monga is paving the way.

I think he'll be gutted he didn't score that.

Absolutely, he over thought it and played it safe. I imagine if he was more confident he laces that either side of the keeper.

Well I hope so anyway lol

I know it's because we have nothing to play for, but part of me just thought "yeah fair ****ing play" for trying to lob the keeper at 15 years of age in front of a massive crowd in a local derby lol

In a parallel universe, that shot goes in and he became the youngest PL scorer in history. Now that would have been a good episode of Sliders.

I think crediting with an attempt to lob is pushing it a bit to be fair mate lol

I think he's focused so much on hitting the target that he's just mishit an incredibly tame side footed shot. That being said, if he had spawned one over the keeper and it landed in the back of the net it would have been glorious haha. Even now when I watch it back and just expecting him to hit a crisp shot into either corner

If that curling effort a few minutes before had have gone in though he'd be getting compared to Yamal and have about 50 clubs contacting his family this week haha.

I thought he looked electric. On another day, maybe with a few more first team opportunities under his belt, he scores that chance at the end.

I was worried he would buckle and didn't think bringing him on was the right move because he's 15 and they were very aggressive in their challenges in what was a hostile atmosphere at 2-1 but he looked at home and Neco Williams (admittedly a fairly average fullback) couldn't get near him.

I really thought that Sels didn't get enough on that save to palm it round the post, I really thought it was doing to drop into the net.

Ah well, he has to start next week IMO. I thought Ayew and McAteer did well enough but we should go after Ipswich.

Yep. Likely good for us that he didn't score that haha. He'd have gone to Man City for a £2m compensation.

Really hope we can keep him because he could be our ticket our of PSR issues. Let alone being able to watch him rinse the Npower.

There have been one or two posters on here claiming that Monga to Man City was a 'done deal' months ago and that anybody hoping he might stay was deluded. RVN's comments yesterday would appear to suggest otherwise, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

It might be done or it might not be. I don't really see what we gain from playing him if it's a done deal though. Ruud continuing to play him in the league suggests that he's got a future here (as it stands).

Yes, playing him and comments he made about contracts yesterday would suggest it is not already a done deal. Not to say it won’t be but currently doesn’t appear so.

Done some reading and seems that players can be offered a scholarship contract for 3 years which delivers a salary once they turn 17.  So whilst you can’t pay them much at 16, you could make that scholarship contract pay 40k/ week beyond 17 y o which effectively means the kid is paid 30k/week for the three years.  Once he’s 17, that contract could be renegotiated upwards if necessary.

no doubt this is what other clubs will be approaching him with.

You got a link to that, would be interested to read that because every source I've tried has said that a professional deal can't be agreed until the player turns 17.
