Did I hear it right, Steve Cooper said  "criticism motivates me"  ?    Perhaps we need to criticise a bit harder !

Send him a link to the Cooper out thread on here, along with a few of @StriderHiryu post match analysis that should do the trick

We won because of the brilliance of  Buonanotte 1st half and 2nd half Bournemouth couldn't finish any of their many chances, simple.

Cooper's subs are shit, made no attempt to affect the game 2nd half, basically he just hoped we could hang on.

Spot on we won because Bournemouth couldn't finish.

In other words, you'll make the data fit  the theory.

No. Come on, you're smarter than this. long term, results trend towards matching performances, not performances towards matching results. if we do the latter, great, but it'd be a fool who'd bet on that happening.

I thought we played well first half. Then the Cooper effect comes in at half time and the Bournemouth keeper didn’t need to come out second half. I know we’ve had negative managers before but this guy is another level. Puel was negative but at least he had some tactical insight. I can’t think of anything positive about  Cooper.

that's not what underlying data means. the underlying data is that both attacking and defensively, we're one of the two worst sides in the division, relying on moments of magic from forwards and a keeper playing out of his skin. that is not sustainable

To paraphrase, "there are lies, damn lies and data"

Thank goodness data predicts nothing in a chaotic system (yet) or else why bother watching if the results are already known?

I agree I have an agenda against him. But it's nothing to do with him being at forest that's condescending.

I don't like the fact that he thinks we're far worse than we are and that we do have a competitive team that has the necessary experience and ability to actually try and win games.

I also think he's tactically poor and makes some very poor decisions during matches.

When did he say he thinks we're far worse than we are or even make that suggestion?? That is absolute rubbish....you've made that up mate I'm afraid.

As for tactically poor and makes poor in game decisions....yeah sometimes but then what manager always gets it right? Seemed to get it right yesterday with 3 points secured.

Edouard was so poor when he came on, that when the ball smashed him in the face, I just thought, that's a crap header.

^ Another great team move!

  • Mads patient to bait the press and uses his CBs to get out keeping the ball
  • Mavididi cool and calm under pressure.
  • Okoli with a superb line-breaking pass to open up the game. High risk but high reward.
  • Ndidi, Faes and JJ play good first time passes to keep the move flowing.
  • Buonanotte with a good progressive carry and a superb pass to Vardy who should score!

Only one bad thing about this move and that was the finish!

This was reminscent of last season and was good football. Cooper is frustrating because we ARE capable of playing like this. But we aren't brave enough to try it more often. But credit where it's due, this was great to watch!

Move deserved a goal

That was crap but at least we won.

I guess we just have to accept that under Cooper, we’ll be crap but will sometimes get a win if the opposition have an off day.

Yay.

Bet you’re great to have a beer with. The support for your club is exemplary, are you stuck in the early Rodgers era or do you need a reality check that we are trying to stay up as one of the weaker squads in the league. Do you think we are going to turn into Barcelona with a new coach?

I have to say I am delighted we won but wow that was close. It seemed cooper did all he could in the second half to invite pressure and draw it. Really really disappointing to see. He needs to grow a pair and trust his players who have shown that they can attack and score.

How did Edouard do when he came on?

He was absolutely faultless when it came to not holding the ball up and offering no attacking outlet for us when we were clinging on.

I agree with you.

I think Cooper is getting slated on this forum and much of it makes sense but let’s look at where we are.

We’ve scored goals and not been thrashed yet so he’s keeping us in games.

Our aim this season is 4th from bottom and survival then we can get rid of him.

I think he’ll keep us up by skin of his teeth

Nice!

Our starting 11 yesterday “only” cost around £90m. Skipp being a big chunk of that as well.

Hermansen & Mavididi for a combined £10m really was great business

Imagine ordering sticky toffee pudding for a dessert, you’re really looking forward to it, just what you want and need! Will hit the spot and finish the day off nicely………  and a bowl of oil and screws turns up, with a pint of bleach to wash it down…… it was a bit like that.

I remember Martin O'Neill saying after a particularly bad match (when our players had been totally inept at doing the simplest task, like passing the ball to someone in the same coloured shirt) ... "I didn't ask them to play like that!".

At half time yesterday, I don't suppose Cooper said "right lads, I want you to change how you're playing.  Stop winning tackles, stop picking up the 2nd balls, don't track their players, and whatever you do, stop passing the ball to your team mates."

But that's what appeared to happen.   At some point, the players have got to individually and collectively do the basics right.   There's too much blaming the manager/coach for everything.

He may achieve 17th but I don't believe the club will get rid, he'll be offered a contract extension.

I posted this yesterday morning -

"The fact is people's capacity for patience is at an all time low, and if we did finish 17th those same reactionary people would be insisting it was despite the manager and with another (fantasy) manager in charge we'd have been in Europe!"

Congratulations!  You're the first! 🤣

I don’t remember saying another manager would get this squad of players into Europe, but okay.

Just watched the highlights on Sky.

Their offside goal. Almost all of the Bournemouth players pretty much knew Evanilson had touched it. As they go to 'celebrate', Cook has no idea if Evanilson touched it, and they're all looking over to the linesman if the flag goes up. As soon as it does, they're all running back and not even debating it with the ref.

As for the Senesi foul on Buonanotte, I didn't realise at the ground how blatant a foul it was. Looks worse when watching it back and it's almost definitely a yellow, which would mean his foul on Fatawu sends him off. Two games in a row opposition players escape 2 bookable offences (Calafiori last week).

Doesn’t matter if he even touched it. He’s a play for the ball so it’s considered interference. You are correct about Bournemouth’s body language. More so what’s weird was that the lino signalled the arm out to indicate goal and then changed his mind! Then VAR stepped into confirm
