I'm quite interested in languages, cultural anthropology and medieval European history which the algorithms seem to have interpreted as me wanting to see teenage Neo-Nazi edits of crusader films. But not all the loony stuff is just right wing, and I disagree with the comment above that twitter made it seem like Trump would get "90%" of the vote in the US, if anything I'd say the opposite. And it's all pretty easy to ignore. I think one of the best things to do is follow a lot of non US and UK accounts which balances out the Anglo-loons.

I don't feel like I'm being ploughed with 'disinformation'. Or maybe I'm just the fish in the fishbowl asking "what's water?".

This is so difficult. I intend this response as entirely conversational and friendly.

I aim to never call anyone stupid for the choices they make. Inevitably, there will be a percentage of stupid people, but most of us are subject to either misinformation or disinformation to an extent, and a large difficulty is that if it's done effectively, by the time one realises it's been done it's already too late.

Like others, my social media feeds aren't toxic, but I'm very aware that I cannot trust someone shouting 'free speech' whilst simultaneously censoring the free speech he happens not to like. When the rich and powerful start deciding what the truth is, we're all in trouble.

I am very fond of lots of people who vote in a way I never could. Likewise, I know plenty of politically aligned folk who I cannot abide. I do get very frustrated at those that suck up so much nonsense willingly, but ultimately, I think it important (and I often have to remind myself) to pity the conned and condemn the conman. And of course, who's to say I'm right?

Is it just me that doesn't manage to see all the horrible shit on Twitter that everyone else does then? Just keep your feed set to 'Following' and don't follow any dickheads?

I was doing pretty well and I'm not sure what I did but suddenly I started getting lots of hapless Russian soldier having grenades dropped on their head videos. I was also starting to get a lot of atrocities from the Middle East which I don't recall asking for  either. I could cope better with these than the sheer numbers of honking c***s replying to tweets on pretty much any subject, though.

Blue sky seems to be mainly cat pictures for me at the minute, like the internet used to be

I left Twitter not long after Musk took over.

I watched my feed change massively over a very short period of time and decided then that his algorithm wasn't for me.

I didn't replace it with anything and feel better for it.

Used Facebook maybe for about a month many, many years ago but realised what a steaming pile that was.

Have an IG account but never use it now as Meta messed that up too.

Signed up to Bluesky last week but, as above, lot's of cat pics and AI landscapes.

I will probably bin it too.

They're all garbage imo.

I had 4000 followers on Twitter/X and the thought of starting again always filled me with dread, but so be it.

I had 15k and deleted, no regrets.

realistically the count means nothing when the site is mostly bots and only fans beggers, only get real engagement if you pay now. Even if we ignore the fact it has become an unregulated hell hole for content and ads.

It already feels more established than that ever did

Didn’t Threads have about 100 million users in less than a week?

Not sure Blue Sky is anywhere near that yet

Football clubs leaving twitter in a huff is arrogant of them. It’s the primary news source for millions of fans.

The worst thing about Twitter is the sheer volume of bots and onlyfans prostitutes. Completely killed the replies a function.

Surely only a matter of time before we designate Jack Dorsey as evil. I like reading @ozleicester posts and his colourful way of describing all billionaires as evil. Why then willingly hand an evil billionaire your money and the ability to play with all your personal data. Baffling

Was scrolling through the Fulham twitter feed after they beat Brentford deep into stoppage time. Why am I seeing onlyfans girls in the replies. The platform is ****ing dead.

Hahaha mate cmon, you think you’re helping improve society by handing a billionaire your personal data and engaging in debate with people he hand picks for you….

If they shouldn’t exist, stop fuelling them. Very simple. You’re actively choosing to by hypocritical

I went there but it never felt like it got going despite the numbers. A lot went back to Twitter.

Blue Sky is basically Twitter before it went to shit. The "Starter Pack" thing seems to be super charging the old networks being set up, and for now it all seems very jolly.

Whether it'll stay like that remains to be seen but that it's actually moderated has got to help

Principles without the genuine power to apply them on a meaningful scale are about as much use as a fart in a category five hurricane.

The past few years have shown that very, very clearly.

Current or future billionaires that you are willingly handing your info would be mad to ‘own’ anything. That’s what offshore trusts are for. If you’re bothered about influencing society, get involved in the democracy that you live in instead of wasting time on social media
