Van Nistelrooy set to raid Man Utd for wonderkid with ‘freakish’ training stats as he targets Leicester loan transfer

The player has been tipped to emulate Mainoo

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY is set to raid his former club Manchester United to improve his Leicester City squad.

The Dutchman made a dream start to life at the King Power by leading the Foxes to a 3-1 win over West Ham on Tuesday night.

SunSport has learned the ex-Man Utd interim is planning to use his contacts at Old Trafford to sign starlet Toby Collyer.

Van Nistelrooy is set to make a loan bid for the 20-year-old midfielder.

The new Leicester boss believes he could be a key asset in their battle to avoid the drop.

He worked closely with Collyer during his time as assistant to Erik ten Hag.

The highly-rated youngster has produced "freakish" running stats in training that can only be bettered by Bruno Fernandes.

United have no interest in selling Collyer, who joined the club's academy two years ago from Brighton.

But they could be open-minded to a loan move, especially to a manager who they know will give him opportunities in the first-team.

Collyer made his senior debut in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City in August.

He has since featured twice, including as half-time sub for Casemiro as United were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in the Premier League.

Pundit Steve Sidwell has tipped Collyer to be a "shining star just like Kobbie Mainoo".

A defensive mid, is that really what we need?

I’d prefer that Wheatley lad is it? Striker sat on their bench never getting a game and he’s mustard.

I’m sure winks and skipp will be delighted to read this ……..

Winks is good on the ball but not good enough defensively. Skipp is ok on the ball and ok defensively but if you add it all up you dont get a PL level player. Ndidi is good defensively and bad on the ball. If this lad is both good on the ball and good defensively then he's worth picking up, a well rounded DM would do wonders for this team.

If he was that good then Amorim would be playing him instead of Casemiro

There's a huge gap in ability between Casemiro and Winks/Skipp/Ndidi (as of recent years), less of a gap between him and Ndidi if Ndidi rediscovers his old self. If this guy sits somewhere between Casemiro and Winks/Skipp then he's worth looking at.

Didn’t watch the match yesterday but Man U fans were impressed with his performance.

Brought him on over Casemiro as well… I know he’s been pony recently but still a big statement
