Might already be a thread for this but the players attitude at times is absolutely awful as seen again today. Already this season in both games against Man U, Brentford, Arsenal and now Newcastle they have either played like they are gonna lose no matter what or given the game away often by letting in two goals in quick succession. The defending that occurs when this happens as well is awful shocking wtf is kristiansen doing on the third goal and the marking for both their set piece goals is also disgraceful. It seems to be a common theme that these toothless performances always occur for our away games. But these players seem to show the fight in games where they are more confident or when their winning but if these circumstances don’t occur we get this awful performance which has become far too common even going as far back since the first season where we finished 5th. Games like when we rolled over against Bournemouth or that match against Forest in the cup. Disgraceful

Yeah, mentality has been an issue for a while. Even when we looked top of the world under Enzo, I think part of the nervousness among the fans was based on the fact that we know it doesn't take much for the players to lose their heads.

It's been like this since about 2018. As soon as the characters in the title side started to retire or be sold the players that came in just didn't have the same desire.

Yep, no real leaders. Look at the talent (or more than it was lots of player's peak) of that Rodgers team and it was way better than other teams to have got into the CL.

Today was one of rare games where they genuinely didn't look arsed at all. Not just fans saying they should work harder but really a case of them just not caring.

Yeah this is one of the most hurtful things.

I don't claim we should have had a mentality like the Class Of 92 at Man Utd but there should have been standards set, that doesn't mean to say we stay at the level, I don't mean or expect that but there is a basic level of requirements you need to apply yourself be at but instead it became petulant ever since.

Probably beaten before they take to the pitch

Top really needs to see why we were successful before and bring in Steve Walsh to oversee recruitment at the club.....if he still doesn't want to get rid of Rudkin. A better DOF would swallowed his pride and got back Steve Walsh at any cost.

I personally would have Puel in as DOF and Steve Walsh in as head of recruitment or the other way round

I hate to point out the obvious but were any of you questioning the player's attitude last week when we came back from 2-0 down against Brighton?

We were beaten by a far superior side today. Nobody in the bottom half would have lived with Isak, Gordon, Tonali etc. There's a reason the Saudis spent hundreds of millions on these players.

I think we can just point out there are too many players that aren't at the level required. I don't think it's any deeper than that.

It was today though. They ambled through that game. Barely saw anyone busting a guy. In fact the only player who did that is probably the one player who should be told to sit in and be ultra safe because he's so horribly out of form; JJ.

They still had Jacob Murphy playing and he looked like a world beater.

Expected to lose but didn't expect for it be like that. I wouldn't even say Newcastle were at their best either. It was woeful.

Maybe the effort wasn’t questioned last week because it was clear to see that it was being made.

So basically what you are saying is anytime a team down the bottom come up against a Newcastle million’s it should be a forgone conclusion that they are played off the park.

lucky Southampton didnt have that attitude or West Ham when they went to Newcastle.

Exactly.

The number of people panicking because one player is injured is frankly embarrassing.

Or panicking because we are the only team out performing out expected points in the bottom 5,  sooner or later other teams luck will change.

11 goals conceded in the last 4 games doesn’t exactly bode well with Liverpool and Man City to come

Some times you have to hold your hands up and accept you get shockers in the Prem when all goes wrong in the match. The attitude under Cooper was all wrong at times, that was down to bad management/tactics in my opinion.

I expect Ruud not to accept a bad attitude having played for some great managers and will put some players out to grass in due course.

Sooner or later our luck will change? :dunno:

Luck isn't something only other teams have.

The result is much less of an issue than the way in which it came about.

There's a mix of lack of effort and lack of ability, you've got to have one or the other.

Not a chance in a month of Sundays do we survive the drop this season, No chance.

The difference between staying up and going down is genuinely a superb keeper, as we saw 2 years ago under Rodgers.

We are already over performing our expected points, the only team out of the bottom 5 at this moment in time.
Currently we are second from bottom based on that statistic, and two of the other teams in the bottom 5 should have at least 5.5 more points by the same metric.

Yes but when the player in question is the one of a very small pool of pl quality we have then it’s not that embarrassing

It’s peculiar on paper. They have shown multiple times this season that they can dig in get results .

However I think it’s increasingly clear that some of this squad are senior and don’t want to challenge themselves when faced with problems. If they don’t have their preferred keeper or they don’t like the tactics or they don’t like a selection on the pitch, they go in playing lazy ****ing football. The squad profile needs to start altering big time. Ambitious players who want to succeed rather than this proven, coasting nonsense

It really isn't.

A goalie playing in a good defence rarely has much to do.

It will be as much the fault of our defence as a collective if we go down.

Depends if you're planning to 'play out' or not.

How many teams that are in the bottom 5 have good defences?? A good defence pretty much secures you about 10th in this division.

Keeper is huge for me, Mads is easily worth 7 or 8 points (being harsh to Mads here) a season compared to Danny Ward.
