That Sheffield United team is awful and they are somehow 2nd. This is the reason why I can't see how we aren't a play off team next year, the league is really poor.

Thing is, this Premier League, or at least the bottom half of it, is also probably the worst it's been quality-wise in 20 years. And yet we're still sat here wondering if we'll be caught by a team flirting with Derby's record. We're bad. Really bad. Worse than two years ago.

Yeah the gap is big and growing, but clubs in as dire a position as our own don't always bounce back in the way we did in 23-24. I doubt we have a Luton-style second relegation on the cards, but I don't think anyone here would be surprised to see us rooted in mid-table and obsessing all season over how 'two good weeks' could see us push for sixth.

I bet you couldn't name 3 players (other than Hamza and Cannon) on the two benches combined without looking.

Obviously I could cos I watched the game and saw the subs come on

no idea who didn’t come on - although Leeds didn’t bring on the tricky small left winger they seem to rotate with gnonto when making the change taking off Solomon.

Whatever we do. Never ever hamza at rb. He's been absolutely dreadful. Oblivious to any runner

He was brought on to take care of Solomon who began to run the sheff u left back ragged back end first half

he did that - Solomon did very little second half.   But watching Solomon so closely mean that he didn’t see firpo arrive late for the headed equaliser.  Shoud, have been picked up by brereton Diaz but wasn’t so hamza needed to spot it.
hamza looked better than most players on the sheff u team with his early/first time play of the ball.

The squad is a right mess.

Do we know how likely Hamza is to go permanently to Sheff U? Is there an obligation if they go up?

Marcal is contracted until 2026? Good lord, he was at best a squad player at Championship level and was dropped by Maresca in favour of having two keepers on the bench with questions around attitude. Completely missed that he'd been given an extension weeks later and he's been a bit-part on loan at a second division Dutch side this year. lol

Even when it was good under Enzo it seems we learned nothing about handing bloated contracts out like sweets. By all rights he should have been one of those due to have to find a new club this summer.

Don’t forget Janik and has 3 year deal. No one is taking him off our hands and paying the wages we’re giving him for 3 years.

This, in itself is absolutely CRIMINAL!

Think he's the least of out problems. Probably on a very small wage.

So the only player you'd offer a new deal is Soumare? A lazy player with an awful attitude whose only 'run' in the first team has seen ten defeats in eleven games? Someone who gives the defence no help (slowly jogging back after giving the ball away) and who offers little or nothing going forward? I know we are all entitled to our own opinions but I would seriously put him alongside Junior Lewis in the running for the worst player to ever wear the shirt.

Given we only had the money to sign Okoli in the summer, we'd be even more short of defenders had we not re-signed Vestergaard. Don't forget he was a mainstay under Maresca and was the ball playing CB for his system. The new deal was offered and signed whilst Maresca was manager too.

It's not great that we're lumbered with him. But there wasn't really an alternative.

Note that I'm not the DOF.

I'm not a huge fan of his. He definitely isn't a defensive midfielder. But at times he's looked one of our better midfielders this season. He's about the only one who can progress the ball from box to box. All the players with 1 year left you either have to sell, offer a new deal or accept they'll be leaving on a free.

He's about the only one on that list that could get better, so a new deal could make sense.

As long as the rest of his season with Cardiff goes well, and it has started well, I would be keeping Alves

Soumare needs selling

Can’t see Souttar being a sellable asset when he won’t be back until around Christmas

Would be looking to sell McAteer as well

3 years! For a 32 year old who was shabby at best in his previous stint in the PL.

A one year deal was the alternative, and make him earn a further year with performances.

We had Ben Nelson, who was an other option, we had Harry Souttar, we most certainly had other options than Vestergaard for 3 fooking years.
