Playing his second season of making first team appearances for them now... And to be fair, that’s worked in our favour because it’s much more likely we will get a bigger fee than if he had the tribunal straight after leaving

Given our current plight though, having some money to spend in January now could have been crucial if it allowed us to do something about that hideous defence without upsetting the PSR applecart. Instead, we will get relegated again and watch our biggest income (Prem TV cash and prize money) gone and replaced by smaller parachute payments, meaning the financial woes we have drag on for yet another year. A bit of extra cash down the road when we are in the champ won't do us any good if it just gets thrown into Teflon Jon's never ending PSR hole while we rot in the EFL. 1
lcfc sheff Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 I don’t believe any of this about him signing for another club, there is gonna be hype and rumours around the lad but if anything were concrete it would be more obvious. Ruud wouldn’t have him training with the first team if it were set in stone
richardsfoxes Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 Sad tbh, when we go down giving him next season would of been great, football just isnt fun anymore. 3
JimJams Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 Well we'll still have a chance I suppose. But it'd mean offering him more than Citeh will be offering plus first team assurances. Bit much for a 15 year old innit? 1
LFEFox23 Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 How old do you have to be to sign a pro contract? 16 or 17? Assuming Man City wont be offering him a standard YTS contract.
ALC Fox Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 Will have had a chance here next season. Instead he'll be going through their academy set-up competing with the likes of Emile Heskey's lads and all the talent they've got. Hope he doesn't get lost there but we should be keeping tabs on him in case it doesn't work out and we can bring him home. Until a deal is done, though, he's still ours. I hope we can convince him to play first-team football next season and he decides to stay.
MPH Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 Difficult choice really… training with the best youngsters in the world or chance of first team football… and training with the first team.. because he won’t be training with the first team at man city..

Is it a difficult choice? Go to Man City and get better coaches, better players around you and to learn from etc, and most depressingly, more of a chance to break into the first team. Look at Nyoni who was far less hyped than Monga and he played for Liverpool at 16 and has picked up a handful more appearances at 17. Look at Man City's record for giving youngsters a chance. Would love to know where this evidence is for people thinking that these guys are more likely to get a chance with us, because I don't see it anywhere? Logically, they should but we are absolutely atrocious and developing younger players and giving them opportunities here or out on loan. Thomas probably the only 1 who's actually been given a first team chance as a very young player and even that was out of necessity. Unless we change how we operate, there is almost no reason for him to stay here over Man City.

Wishful thinking. Your logic is sound but unfortunately it's been this way for as long as I can remember and that's with certain coaches who supposedly liked young players (Rodgers, RVN, even Maresca when you actually look the amount of chances afforded to younger players). There's always an excuse to not pick them.

We have players who are desperate to get out on loan, the club don't allow them to move, or only allow them to move at the last minute, which could have balls'd the whole move up. We're so amateur.

Not sure I can agree with that how many of the best young playing talent have come out of Man C academy yet didn’t play for Man C, Delap etc who will get a good move this summer but off the back of playing for Ipswich not because he came from Man City, Christ even Cole Palmer had to leave Man C to get game time.
JimJams Posted 6 March 2025 Posted 6 March 2025 No but he got a move to Chelsea off the back of being a highly rated prospect at Man City. Like Sancho to Dortmund. I think when you get the chance to move to one of the bigger clubs you generally just take it. Then you''re moving in those circles even if you don't play for them. 1

The same Liam Delap who made his debut for them at 17? Then got loads of championship loans. Cole Palmer who had played 40 games for the club before he was 21. Not to mention he had the likes of Foden (came through Man City academy and was player of the year) De Bruyne, Silva, Mahrez etc all in his position ahead of him, yet still played that often. Who scored 2 of their goals at the weekend? Oh another young player they've given a chance to. 4 academy players in their starting lineup at the weekend. And that's competing against some of the best players in the world. And even if you don't get a chance in the first time, you probably get fast tracked into a championship of top tier European loan. What do you get at Leicester? Under 21's football with a lower league loan when you're 21 if you're lucky. Objectively, getting out of Leicester as a youngster is a great move. 2
Chrysalis Posted 8 March 2025 Posted 8 March 2025 I believe in being moral, and not always putting one self first. With that in mind in his shoes I would offer LCFC the first chance to sign, but with the condition being in the first team squad for the season. Add a release clause as well, as clauses are a way to let the player know you wont block them providing valuation is met, so then club gets to profit from the investment put into the academy on the player.

I don’t think the best thing for a 16 y o kid is to be playing men’s professional football. his football development will be best served by playing U21 at the highest level possible with a few first team squad appearances sprinkled in (prob cup comps) For his family, the best thing is for him to be earning the most money possible. Sadly, neither of these things would happen at Lcfc

Sorry - thats stupid. He should be in the 1st team squad on merit. Clauses like this achieve nothing. Say he has a drop in developmental form next year, or an injury which sets him back a little.
Analysethis Posted 8 March 2025 Posted 8 March 2025 The clubs "current plight" has zero bearing if we keep these wonderkids or not. You could argue that if we were the club of a few seasons ago, challenging for the Champions League possies then Monga would have already left.Trey Nyoni went to Liverpool a couple of years ago, Bassey went to Rangers and he was 20 I believe 4 or 5 years ago. If youth players want to go to these large clubs for their academy then there is little we can do to stop them. The hope is the local lads have an affinity for the club and there families suggest they stay and develop with us.To me its daft that any youngster is allowed to leave his mates and home to start a new life at such a young age away from his family. He is developing well with our set-up, hopefully we keep him and see how he ends up in a couple of years.
turkish14 Posted 20 April 2025 Posted 20 April 2025 Does anyone know where Monga was born? Is he a Leicester lad?
