If we don't sign anyone else which is entirely possible, that's two January windows in a row that we've ended the window with a weaker squad than when we started.

Totally unforgivable.

Totally ridiculous given what was at stake last season and what we’re playing for now.

But presumably we don't want the munter at the centre of our midfield? You need to run with the analogy completely.

Otherwise you just shagged Junior Lewis!!

Now you're talking Munter sense! 👍🏼

Scrambling around towards the end as per every single window. Always been a red flag.

We're always doing the chasing. Always desperate. Even in the Championship it happened.

Life under Top & Rudkin.

We will probably make a signing. We'll then be greeted with the "see what were you all moaning about?".

I think absolutely nothing of those running the club and even I think we can't blank this week. It's so preposterous that it would be almost funny.

To be fair there isn’t a great deal of market activity as a whole so far this month, expect things to ramp up over the next few days…

…for other clubs 😁

Disgraceful to have signed 1 player 28 days into the January transfer window when we're in our current position.

I thought we'd get 2 more, and that was me thinking that I was being pretty negative.

A player who lets be honest, Middlesbrough or QPR could've signed.

I don't believe they aren't trying - I just believe it's a symptom of what we all know to be true. Incompetent people who don't learn, making the same incompetent mistakes. They're trying, but failing, as usual.

We dodged a bullet with Sensi though didn’t we?

The other thing I’m always mindful of is the January window isn’t great for doing business in.

Clubs everywhere are busy with playing, deals are hard to come by and you don’t have the time to get a player in, integrate them and get them them settled in their new surroundings before chucking them on the pitch.

So for me there is a slight dilemma in terms of certain positions on whether it’s sensible to act now, or take a risk and hope to have better opportunities for that position in the summer.

Signing a striker is a position I’m thinking of in particular because outside of Evan Ferguson - who I think would be a great signing for us - I don’t see much in terms of opportunities out there that would certifiably improve the starting 11.

Yes and no - he had surgery as a result of knowing that he wasn't going to be playing games which he probably wouldn't have if we'd signed him. Besides on him the point that was often missed is if we lose Ndidi for months, have Casadei recalled, can't sign Sensi, then.... simply sign someone else. This is what a well functioning club could do.

Things will ramp up tomorrow when Tier 4 merchant John Percy drops his bomb stating that Oli McBurnie will be signing on loan.

January is never a good time to do business and, if you can, the value is usually poor.

The real root cause of our season has been the absolutely abhorrent summer transfer window. We p***ed all our available funds up the wall on players who were never likely to make the difference required at this level. We would actually have done better sticking with what we’d got and saving funds for this window.

For that summer window alone we should see heads roll. Not that we will and any manager we bring in is now operating with their hands tied behind their back

thats true

we struggle to do business whatever the window so I bet Rudkin has bought a packet of custard creams from B&M and is handing them out to everyone in celebration of the little business they have done.

Brighton open to letting Ferguson go permanently. Considering he can't get in ahead of 34 year old Danny Welbeck they must not rate him that highly..

Maybe not, but there’s a potential player in there and I’d say he’s the striker style profile that we’re certainly lacking at the moment (someone with a bit of physicality).

I don’t think we’re at the head of the queue though sadly, plus finances could be an issue on that one.

We’ll see though.

It’s not dissimilar to say we have a player in Daka, however he can’t get in from of Vardy.

Like everyone selling some who pretty much pure profit is very helpful.

Yeah, but we’ve tried with Daka without great success, to the point it’s probably time to give up hope with him (queue a goal scoring run of 5 in 5!)

At least with Ferguson, it would be a fresh start for him and he wouldn’t have done anything with us to prove he’s shit (or not) to start with.

Anyway, if the Sussex Express are to be believed, Xabi Alonso and Bayern Leverkusen are in form him… so we have next to no chance.

I'm sure it was Pearson who used to say the best prepared clubs did their business in the summer.

It's always the case. Big money buys aren't available mid season, proper players are performing for proper clubs. There will always be an odd exception like a Huth or a Tielemans but they're rare beasts. January is more a time for the Ryan Bennetts of this world. If they come in now I'd be more wary than excited anyway

I’ve always thought signing in January is purely necessary for:

1. Replacing outgoings - have we lost anyone other than Hamza?

2. Gap fill long term injuries - can lead to overpaying on a fee as is the nature of the window (short term) and a bloated squad, over paying in wages (long term).

3. To get over the line - again, doesn’t always work and leads to extra financial burden long term.

A properly assembled squad in summer, along with sensible, productive outgoing loans SHOULD cover a club for a season barring any long term injuries to key players.

The time, value and opportunity to integrate players/manager is there in the summer. Yet we end up scrambling around then too, so we have no hope for a successful January.

It’s hit a point where I dread signing players because you can see where it’s going. Massive fees and wages relative to the players quality/potential.

It was more exciting trying to sign Maynard and Mackail-Smith than what we’re doing now, which speaks volumes!

If you’re prepared, then this window is no different to the summer one.

Teams typically over pay for in form, top players.

Our market is the semi unknowns that have good stat matrix, so we are taking calculated risks. Why we haven’t moved on some of these is bizarre.

One Chris Garland type signing (circa 1975) would do the job.

Signed from Chelsea just before the transfer deadline and scored 8 in his first 7 games to save us from relegation.

That's it isnt it, one signing of quality over 5 mediocre ones can make the difference. I mean I wasnt around in 1975 but remember Kevin Campbell coming in for Everton who were nearly gone until he showed up and started scoring for fun. Or at the other end, Huth for us.

We need 4/5 players to really add value and improvement to the squad long term but to stay up and get 17th, it could just be one very good one.

Definitely going to end up loaning a couple more players out, not sign anyone else, and actually end up with a weaker overall squad than what we started January with aren't we?

No sure it weaker selling Cannon who was on Loan anyway and swapping Woyo for Hamza.

Not much stronger, but not weaker.
