Some others are now saying that the 53-year-old white man who's been arrested is someone who tried to drag the guy out of the car. Then they remembered that Liverpool is a largely left-wing city and reverted to The Sun type by saying the Scousers had provoked or frightened him into accelerating out of trouble.

Just saw a video and the driver doesn't look like old man, in the video his car was being attacked when it was stationary with him inside. He looks like he stats to drive than breaks , then gets attacked again and then out of panic drives off..... before the tragic incident

I've seen the video where they open the car door. You can see he's white, but there's no way you can tell when age he is, it's far to blurry.

 

He also drives straight at one man, stops and then veers left into a larger crowd of people. I don't think he was panicked, it looked like he intended to hit as many people as possible.

I didn't mean to add to any speculation btw. Just can't be doing with all the conspiracy merchants when this stuff happens. I've seen the still of the video. People are claiming he doesn't look 53. It's very blurry, I doubt I'd recognise myself in an image like that let alone be able to accurately assess the age of a total stranger.

I know. What happened will be established once the right people have a chance to do their jobs. I just wish the public would let that happen when horrific stuff like this occurs - chiefly because the people being mown down are real and deserve that level of human decency as a bare minimum. It's baffling people can't understand that.

Seen quite a few people saying he doesn’t look 53 as if 53 is ancient.  Eminem is 52 and looks pretty much the same age as the pictures of this guy.

The news are as transparent as they're allowed to be, based on the info the police tell them.

 

In certain instances (alleged offenders aged under 18, for example) publishing more information is simply illegal.

Thanks for clearing that up - I understand the law for minors. The news are very selective on what they release otherwise.

I'm often impressed by the speed of European policing. Usually in just a matter of minutes they've managed to not only investigate but also reach a conclusion that various knife and car attacks 'aren't thought to be terror related'

This has a precedent of course, so I understand the caution.

It does beg a question however.

If there are future crimes of similar gravity and the perpetrator is non white, would this be released, especially if they are looking for a suspect and need to issue a description?

I do wonder, because I recall an incident where the police were asked by a pressure group, if it had been necessary to mention the colour of a suspects skin in an incident involving a mugging. If issuing a description of a wanted person, I would argue it is very relevant.
