Get a grip man!

Look at his returns. FB is the better player of the two and he hasn’t been given any game time. Criminal that is

Not sure that makes him a poor player.

Not sure what that has to do with you original point.

I like them both, far to early in their careers to say who's better at this point at 19 and 20.

I hope I’m wrong but let’s see.

Thanks for the laugh, He’s a very decent player and still young I would be very surprised if he’s not playing premier league football next season

Get prepared for a shock!

A reason to be positive as presumably he’ll be part of our squad next season and getting minutes. But given we have just played a 15 year old in an area Alves could play (whether you believe the rumours the club hierarchy ordered RvN to do it to appease fans or not) should he not be part of the squad this season?

There's no point whatsoever in recalling him. We're down so the games are meaningless and will further say morale, while Cardiff could still survive. Possibly at the expense of Derby.

Monga won’t be here next season, so Alves will play.

And he’ll be playing against blokes who he’ll be up against next season

He instantly changed the game for Cardiff. I didn’t watch the first half but their fans on twitter were saying it was dreadful.

Relentless running at his man and always looking to go forward.

Considering he’s never had a loan and coming back from a dreadful injury he’s taken to the championship very well.

Good point. Same for Nelson presumably?

We play Southampton on the 3rd May which is the final day of the Championship. We then have;

Forest (a)

Ipswich (h)

Bournmouth (a)

Definitely worth getting them and continuing with Monga and perhaps give Evans a run and drop those we want out to make a point as well as show the youngsters that next season is theirs!

I think the loan contracts tend to run until the end of May so not sure he would be able to

Can’t remember it happening anytime recently either

Pretty sure it’s end June for contracts.

as you say, don’t recall ever seeing it happen before - recall options are usually time limited aswell.

I think they could play U21 though.

He's playing well against championship opposition despite looking raw, which is good to see as it means that there is still room for improvement.

I didn’t say we should recall him. Just questioning with the balance and quality in the squad why he wasn’t given a go.

Looking deeper. Barnes finished his season with MK Dons at end of April and played in the final under 21s game of the season

I have no idea what his ceiling is but to be looking this confident after basically zero professional minutes and a bad injury it’s impressive

For those who have watched more of the un21’s (as he has been playing in wide positions for Cardiff), what is his potential down the middle, as a number 10? Or would it be putting him out of positon?

Just thinking to next season, we have:

Fatawu (rw)

Evans (rw)

Mavididi (lw)

Monga (lw)? If he stays of course which might be unlikely.

Plus you have BDR and Ayew who shifting one might be realistic but shifting both not so much. And McAteer as well.

Could you have….

Mavididi - Alves - Fatawu?

Otherwise, and if Monga leaves, Alves and Mavididi become the options on the left. With Fatawu and hopefully Evans on the right.

It does feel are currently stocked in the wide positions. As I say, if Monga goes and if any or a combination of McAteer, Ayew and BDR move on, this will decrease.

But we aren’t stocked in the central position other than Bilal if he stays. So I wonder whether Alves would make that position his own.

It also depends on the manager and whether they play with a number 10 I guess, and whether they give the youngsters players a chance as well.
