Giving a 31 year old defender (who was rubbish the last time he was in the Prem) a new 3 year deal which he’ll almost definitely be on at least 80k a week is absolute self sabotage. What was the need?!Ā

Yes, it's felt like self harming for a few years nowĀ

Ā

I wonder who will be overseeing the relegation debacle enquiry this year?Ā

Thanks for doing this. Ā It shows why the ā€˜get rid of them all’ strategy is not as easy as it sounds. Ā There will be interest in some but unless we can agree to terminate Ā by mutual consent we are stuck with them because wages will be a stumbling block.

Ā

It would be interesting to know actual wages and whether they have relegation clauses. Ā I hope most of the newer contracts do so there should not be the desperate financial need to come straight back up that there was last time.

Ā

With this in mind I would prefer us to target promotion in three years by which time almost all the current contracts will have expired if we don’t manage to sell. Ā The aim

being to put the club back on a secure footing on and off the pitch with a sustainable wage structure ready for another tilt at the prem. Ā This would encourage development of the youngsters and discourage buying ā€˜Premier League experience’. Ā A combination of outstanding training facilities and a clear pathway into the first team should be enough to attract and retain promising youngsters and coaches. It’s only a few years ago that we regularly had 4 or more academy graduates on the pitch at a time with Barnes, KDH, Chillwell, Hamza and Thomas all in our around matchday squads. Ā Even when they made mistakes I found it much easier to get behind them than the journeymen/mercenaries we have now.

The players. A couple of senior members of the squad told Top that they were a bit upset by the the inquiry into the 2023 relegation, so the club has decided to let the players conduct it themselves this time. Preliminary findings indicate that the players have actually been extremely hard-working and committed to the cause all season, but the club keeps letting them down by appointing the wrong kind of manager.Ā

I suppose you look at the QPR cup game and althoughĀ  we didn't play great we were still too much for a solid mid table side ,so should give some hope for next seasonĀ  maybe.Ā

Better than thinking if we still had Enzo we would be comfortably outside the bottom three.

We were never keeping Enzo though.

You can piece together a decent 11 from there, but it doesn't make for great reading when you take into account the wages, who is gonna buy the unwanted players, the fact we'll need to sell about 70m worth of players etc.

Ā

Stolarczyk, Coulibaly, Vesty, Souttar, Kristiansen (I think he'll be sold), Winks, Skipp, Fatawu, El Khannous, Mavididi and a new ST.

Big wages gone this summer

Ā

Id sell any we can that are out of contract next summer apart from Stolarczyk

Ā

I think Faes, Ndidi, Mads will definitely go

Ā

Don’t mind keeping the ones we can in the last two columns for the championship but think they’ll be interest in El Khannouss, Kristiansen and Okoli

Mindboggling isn’t it? Ā  To be fair to him Vesty did a job in the Championship although we still gave away a lot of chances, we just got away with it because most strikers there are shĆ®te.

El khannous will have plenty of offers and should fetch around 35m so he won't be here, and Mads should get somewhere around the same fee... if we'd have stayed up I'd add 10m to both of them easily.Ā  Ā So that's 70mĀ

Ā

Kristiansen and faes will bring in around 20m between them. Vardy will be off the wage bill, alongside Wards 50k a month so that's another 170k a month savedĀ

Ā

Problem is being stuck with Ayew, vesty and BDCR. Hopefully Ayew will fancy a warmer climate and sod off abroad somewhere but we're stuck with the other two

Saddest thing is Soumare will go right after he is finally living up to his hype (know certain people will laugh at that). Genuinely a player who could in another world be worth a lot of money if we could survive

These guys will look better in the Championship though so not necessarily a bad thing unless as expected we reward them with contract extensions upon promotion

Reckon we can clear c. £60m in sales, and vastly reduce the wage bill. Based on the below, need 4 incomings minimum, although would be willing to listen to offers for about half the squad and reinvest.
Ā

Ā

Stolarczyk /Ā New GKĀ / Young

Ā

Coulibaly / JustinĀ

Okoli / SouttarĀ

Nelson / Vestergaard

New LBĀ / Thomas

Ā

Skipp /Ā New CMĀ / CartwrightĀ

Winks / BraybrookeĀ

Ā

Fatawu / McAteerĀ

El Khannous / Alves / Golding

Mavididi / DeCordova Reid

Ā

Daka /Ā New STĀ / EvansĀ

Ā

Ā

Out: Hermansen (£35m), Faes (£8m), Ndidi (£8m), Soumaré (£6m), Hamza (£3m), Ayew (£2m), Coady (£1m), Kristiansen (loan), Vardy (free), Iversen (free), Ward (free).

Every year I think it's harder to stay in the Prem, PSR is making it a closed shop. It's highly likely next year it will be the 3 promoted teams again as none of them are as strong as we were last year.Ā

I would give the 3 promoted teams a bigger share of the TV money and/or less strict financial rules for 1 year
