Speak for yourself. If Southampton get Rohl and we get somebody like Dyche or Gary O'Neil, I will literally vomit.

No I get you, I just think if someone goes back to a club that funded their coaching development... I would get it :P

Why do we have to be a counter attack side, which can also be pretty honking to watch.

Why can’t we be a procession side who moves the ball forward quickly with pace and movement, instead of everything being so slow. Get some could defenders who can actually defend, decent wingers and midfielders that aren’t completely anonymous. We seem to have had anonymous midfielders since King left, we don’t get goals from any other area of the pitch.

How many newly-promoted teams come into the PL and succeed playing possession-based football?

Would he have come in the summer before Cooper? Perhaps he felt aggrieved he wasn't considered then? Just a theory.

unlikely. we're talking at the point of the euros going on and the possibility of Steve Clarke getting sacked, and him being the obvious choice to take charge of his nation. Same reason Potter was a no go

In recent years, Bournemouth and Fulham have done it. Brighton started out as a counter-attacking side when they were promoted but when it was clear that wasn't working, they sacked Hughton and appointed Potter to play a more possession-based game. It was at that point they began the upward trajectory that has taken them to where they are now.

So three of the recent blueprints for success for Championship clubs have been possession-based sides. Against this, Forest have adopted a very different approach and have also done very well.

Football is evolving all the time and ideas about tactics change constantly. But let’s be clear: In Dyche’s most recent job he was miserably failing to get a tune out of a group of players that have averaged two points a game since Moyes returned. He’s a dinosaur and we shouldn’t let him anywhere near our club.

The transformation of Everton under Moyes (who isn't himself exactly renowned for playing attractive football) is very damning on Dyche. Everton were awful under Dyche - tactically predictable and plodding, characterized by ageing workhorses and a complete lack of flair or attacking intent. His tactics have become obsolete in the modern game and he hasn't adapted. Under Dyche, Ayew and BDCR would 100% be getting in the side ahead of Buonanotte and Mavididi and the football would be turgid beyond belief. Haven't we suffered enough in recent times without picking a manager who would make it even worse?

I agree with completely. 👏

I think its the pep lite version that they play.

The bigger question with FFP is how many teams come into the PL and can stay up

Its a pathetic joke of a closed shop, best league in the world ha! February Title and Relegation done. Pathetic corrupt league.

Bournmouth was 19th in the PL with 40.4% possession their first year back up. Fulham was 11th with 48.8.

Both were top (or very close to the top) of the possession stats the previous season when they got promoted. This suggests that they had less possession because they were playing better sides in the PL, not that they abandoned their preferred style and started hoofing it...

Dunno if been mentioned already as haven't read the thread.

But I think danny rohl would be great for us to reset and rebuild over next couple of seasons.

I've seen him mentioned a few times

No. We need a clean fresh outlook. No going back for previous players or managers. We need new blood at board level, manager, coaching and players. Younger squad, ambitious talented manager and DoF.

We'll have to take a hit on how strong the squad will be but it's stale and needs a shake up.

Just noticed Middlesbrough have lost 5 games in a row (and 7 in 8)... if they sack Carrick, Ruud should do everything in his power and Yanited connections to bring him here as a first team coach or assistant

They weren't team mates or coaches at the same time, there is no connection.

If Maresca goes from Chelsea, it will be him coming back.

Some don’t like the football, however it’s largely successful and his recruitment was significantly better than Cooper.

Errrrr not.a fvcking snowball in hell's chance thank you very much..

Couldn't stand god awful Enzoball the first time we were subjected to it, so I definitely don't want a second dose, (anyway with the team we have it wouldn't work)  its slowly being worked out at Chelsea (much the same as it did with us) and It wouldn't surprise me if its effectiveness dropped off now for them.   Even Pep's possession based sore-fest tactics have finally been sussed and Man City's dominance is waining somewhat.

When we have our own mini spells in matches PI$$ing around with it at the back we just invite pressure. So to do that as our main tactics just would be suicide..

It's a hideous,  turgid brand/style of football that I never want associated with our club again.

   OK rant over.....

The most frustrating part of Enzo ball was how slow it was for the majority of the game, Mads to Vestergard to Mavididi, backwards pass to Justin, Across the back 4 to Riccy, Onto the other wing with Fatawu, Pass back to Winks, sideways pass to KDH.... And fans wondered why teams just sat in a deep block against us. Fans spent months arguing that teams sat in a deep block because of how strong our team was, and just couldn't accept it was because we took 50+ passes to even attempt to get into the box giving opposition defenders weeks to plan. I saw on so many occasions the opponents players literally walking across the middle of the pitch to get into a new position because of how slow we were. The only time we actually looked good that season was in the early part of the season where teams didn't really know our system, then a snore fest where we collapsed and almost threw away a 14? 17? point lead, and then the final handful of games where we basically dropped Enzoball and went all out attack and looked exciting, but apparently that was also Enzoball?

Massive thanks to Enzo for his job in turning the ship around, he really did turn around the feeling at the club from desperation to hope again, but i'd crawl over broken glass before having to watch that football again.

I'm going to annoy a few on here I'd expect as i've said it approx 378 times at this point, but my friend trio are lifelong Wednesday and Bournemouth fans, Danny is the man. £5m buyout, if you think LCFC is in a mess, wait until you see Wednesday, Danny Rohl would come here, maybe not now (although the lure of the prem would be massive) as he's a principled bloke it seems and he wants to keep going for the playoffs with Wednesday, but he's literally turned around a ship in far bigger crisis than we have been, and has spent basically nothing getting this League 1 squad from guaranteed relegation to playoff contenders.
The job he's doing there is absolutely massive.

This is the sort of manager every single fan should be behind. Heavy metal German football, tactically fluid, young and hungry manager that is on his way to the top, he would have our current squad top of the league in the championship, absolutely zero doubt.
