People forget last season was Kone’s first full season in professional football. He’s got tremendous upside, although I have doubts if he can be the main number 9 for a promotion chasing side next season because of that inexperience. I’ll happily see us take that chance though.

Can he hold up the ball and link up play? I think this is going to be one of the biggest assets Marti is going to look for as an outlet to go long if we struggle with the oppositions initial press.

Same here. There's as much risk with signing a player like this, who should be on the 'up' as signing a proven championship player or prem loan.

he can do that and hes mobile, not slow either, the sort of forward I'd say we need in the MC system

He's posted decent enough numbers and is the right age.  He was wank in the playoffs though!  But you can't buy proven talent at this level without spaffing your entire budget (do we have one) so you need to take gambles on players like him stepping up a level.  If we're not loaning a striker, then this is a good speculative option.

tbf both have risks, you can get a striker on loan from a premier league team and he could be woeful in every respect

Are there some similarities between Kone and Toney (who you will recall signed for Brentford from Peterborough, having scored the most goals in previous League 1 season)? A similar initial asking price. Kone was voted best League 1 player last season and in the team of the year. Kone's goalscoring record from first season to second(last)  season demonstrates the improvement (4 from 21 appearances, then last season (21 from 52 appearances).

However, no-one would be surprised to read

https://www.lep.co.uk/sport/football/preston-north-end/richard-kone-transfer-news-rumours-preston-north-end-swansea-city-wycombe-wanderers-wrexham-5250540

I am not sure City even interested (apart from speculation in press, presumably because it is clear we need a striker for little money, and Kone would that criteria).

Is it the case we don't spend any transfer fees  until a player is sold? By which time, very little available.  I might be doubting the strategy (if there is one?) of Rudkin et al!

Similarities with Fryatt for us. Bombed in his first season, filled his boots in L1 and then did well in the Championship.

Stoke seems like a strange and shite loan destination for him ... oh well 😞

Michail Antonio is a free agent. Could do a job in the short term for us surely

We're trying to rid our club of 30+ year old players on £85,000+ a week, not sign more.

The following stat is not an attempt to suggest we don't need another striker, we 100% do, but I've just worked out that Patson Daka had 12 goal involvements in 12.17 games when we were last in the Championship. It's important to remember just how much weaker sides are at this level in dealing with a bit of pace and mobility.
