Their attempt at drawing the line under this whole fiasco hopefully. We just need the Israeli’s to stop now.

I wonder what the odds on that are.

There were reports earlier today that the Israeli’s had made noises that their attacks would be over in a few days and if Iran stops then they would also stop (but I think Iran also has to agree to enter meaningful negotiations with USA and E3 re no enrichment - enter putin stage left ).

Looks like

a) symbolic and a limited attack on equipment taking care to avoid any injuries to deaths (and possibly intercepted by defences).

What's option b)?

It was in my original post but because it’s a) then b) isn’t relevant

Like RVN's option b) then.

Interesting that Macron has called the US strikes  illegal. No love lost currently between him and Trump. Our spineless government think that but daren’t say it as they’re scared to upset Trump while the German chancellor fully supports them. Weird times.

Macron doesn’t have to make public his opinion - but as you say there’s no love lost between him and trump.  Presume they will meet tomorrow at the NATO summit ?

I think it’s obvious Starmer is on Macron’s side but is motivated so much about not upsetting Farage and being seen to be siding against Farage tbh. Almost everything Starmer seems to do these days seems to be in fear of Farage.

It still baffles me that some people in the UK (rightly) see Trump and his policies for the disgust they are, but seemingly endorse such policies when Farage puts them forward. Shows the power of a certain type of UK upper-class charisma.

Macron also doesn’t have to stand for election again so has little to lose.

He did also say Iran can’t have nukes but what USA did was illegal. He tends to have better relations with countries like Iran.

They’ve had many ding dongs over the years to be fair have Trump and Macron.

I wonder

if I’m right then I’ll refer back to this post

I can’t say what I’m thinking cos it will likely be too controversial for the thread -  just hope that today was the lowest point of the past 20 months and there is light at the end of the tunnel

Isn't it just standard UK/France reaction to American foreign policy?

He’s going to have the biggest whinge when it doesn’t get him a Nobel Peace Prize.

...it's almost as if the stories and history are right about that level of obsession with personal legacy combined with a large degree of power being absolutely and utterly toxic to pretty much everything it touches, isn't it?

Bring peace by starting a war that you think  you're in control of.

What could go wrong?!

He will never ever stop going on about it and it will eat away at him for the rest of his disgusting life and that will make a lot of people happy

Tbf to him it's hardly the first time someone has gone for the arsonist and firefighter routine as a means to look vaguely palatable.

Like you said though, fires have a habit of often growing beyond the control of those who start them.

Perhaps he will emulate old Adolf in banning US citizens from receiving said Prize until he wins it.

Par for the course for certain sections of the UK press to not only be totally OK with Trump's decision making here but also pushing the UK to endorse it too.

As if picking a side doing the shooting is better than keeping with all of those pushing to stop the shooting. Distasteful, but again, hardly unexpected.

If they have actually got away with bombing Iran's nuclear program without any really significant  consequences, then its hard to argue with.  The problem is we won't really know for a while.  Possibly years.

Just a bizarre couple of weeks, nothing seems real anymore. What was the point in all of that? Despite the rhetoric, the US was obviously never going to invade, and nobody actually knows how degraded the enriched uranium is. That’s two wars in two months where it’s just basically been two pointless missile trade offs before stopping. Time for diplomacy again maybe?
