Fair enough - I wasn't aware that the above matters were firstly something just to "seek attention about" and secondly someone else's problem, as opposed to, you know, everyone's.

Goes without saying that it's 'everyone's' but it's very selective which problem attracts enough attention to be worthy of regular mass demo's and violence. Plenty of genocides are available but Gaza was chosen for some reason. The Home Secretary has eluded to it.

Dunno, but I expect that Greta and thousands of others will be at a loose end on Saturdays and will be looking for something else to seek attention about.

Why?

There's something in that. Awful lot of atrocities to go round.

It's unfortunate that the one that can both take more lives and create more such atrocities than any other often gets overlooked, though.

I'm sure they'll be able to find something to do on Saturday afternoons until the next cause is selected. Plenty of other world problems to provide a chance for some more intimidation and violence.

Do you not think what Greta and co were doing giving aid (or trying to) to those in Gaza was worthwhile? Bit harsh to call it attention-seeking in my humble opinion.

Might've been if they had anything more than token aid on board. Israeli forces stated there was none and I dont think that's been denied (?) So what else was the flotilla about?

It’s not been denied - it was basically accepted by them on a an x post

Thankfully masses of aid (including tents and blankets) are now entering each day and most importantly, being distributed

Children could kill with catapults, farmer warns - BBC News

No kidding? I mean, just ask Goliath.

Yeah, I know that was a sling, but slingers were commonly used as artillery in the bronze age and I'd imagine modern catapults are more powerful (plus not many people are wearing bronze armour).

Briefly (very briefly) saw a headline that UK is forecast to be the 2nd largest growing economy behind US. Legit?

Yes, with the caveat inflation is the highest in the G7 so will make the working person feel poorer than they were the prior year.

Just look at M&S Christmas food prices!

It’s easier to grow when you’re starting from a poor position

Is it?  I am not sure you have any basis for that do you?

Yeah I don’t get that either. Surely it’s easier to keep something going than it is to kickstart something struggling?

I had a catapult as a kid too, but - call me a right square **** - I never used it on animals or human beings. My parents, in their outrageous commitment to morality, suggested that might be wrong.

Inflation is more of a concern than whether the economy is predicted to grow 0.8% or 1%. That's what will hit everyone's back pocket, and keep interest rates higher which will keep mortgage rates up etc etc etc

Not agreeing or disagreeing but isn’t that just changing the subject to try and deflect into more criticism of the government? Feels like Starmer and Reeves are set up to fail here. They actually start to get the economy growing, which seems like a good first step and suddenly it’s not enough because we’re not at step 4, or it’s “well it’s easy to grown from a poor position” or “well other things are more important”. Don’t we all want the country to grow and do well under this government? Shouldn’t this be something that we almost universally agree is a good start of things moving in the right direction?
