NCP closing 22 UK car parks from midnight on Thursday and four are in Leicester and one in Hinckley.

Rutland St is the one I will miss, always used it for The Curve. Going to be looking at dodgy street parking.

Surely that will make Leicester city centre worse than it already is?

It will be a nightmare unless somebody takes them over. Lee Circle as well, one of the few affordable places in town to park for any length of time.

Do you reckon that these people have actually detached themselves from logical thought that they actually believe what they say here?

Or is it just a matter of talking a good game for the sake of keeping the Dear Leader in power, because they know when he goes they won't be far behind?

Look, the main audience for this guff is Trump himself. But wondering if US Foxes can explain whether the MAGA voter base actually appreciate this?!

Depends if the words have more than one syllable……

I must admit I have a massive blind spot on this one: I have next-to-no personal experience from which to understand the MAGA mindset! I have many American friends, nearly all of whom disassociated themselves from Trump a decade ago! *Nobody* I know is prepared to come out and bat for Trump, but they *must* be out there. Bunch of cowards! Where are you?! Own it!!

there’s a lot of very intelligent people over here who are big fans of Trump - Drs and surgeons I work with in particular, I know people would love to believe his MAGA base are a bunch of  unintelligent knuckle draggers as it would make it so much easier to understand but it simply isn’t true. It sure ads to the bewilderment for me..I’m guessing the whole ‘ American first’ thing is an ideology… feels like the beginnings of  Nazi-ism or even the Boer rule and subsequent apartheid.

And I imagine also the more inland you go. I know folks around the big cities on or near the coast

It's not that they are thick, it's that they are ignorant of the facts.  If you live in a Republican area (they exist, people move a lot in the US and tend to move with like people), you only talk to fellow republicans.  You don't talk politics at work, or at least not with those you know you don't agree with.  Your TV news is Fox, your online algorithms show you what you already think.  How exactly are you supposed to see the other side of the argument, when you literally don't SEE or HEAR the other side of the argument.

Abbey Street was always my go to when I worked in town 8am-10pm. £3.50 a day from memory. Lee Circle was always too expensive. If I couldnt afford Abbey Street, I parked on Tudor Road.

Both however had their down sides. Someone on Tudor Road scratched their name in inch high letters on my bonnet and Abbey Street someone threw a drain cover through the back window and then kicked their way of the passenger window, stealing nothing. I remember me shouting at the ticket gate, freezing my tits off with a 16 mile drive ahead of me when NCP wouldnt let me out as I was an hour over my exit time. I apologise to that employee for the response he got....

The Highcross is £5 for all day parking, £3 for 2 hours, which is good value for city centre parking.

Solar panels, yes; heat pumps, jury's out.

Problematically, if you wait, both these things will be so much better in years to come. Just look at people who've installed solar ten years ago versus today, so much more power generated.

Peter Soulsby says you can use your bike or bus! Problem solved.

Energy tech will always improve efficiency year after year. That's nothing new.

Developers will be required to install solar panels and heat pumps in all new homes in England as part of updated planning requirements published by the government.

About 10 years late but better late then never

Adds another 5-10k to new build housing costs.

It is possible (probable) that as this has been dealt with via planning the building regs won't change. So the extra spent on these will be offset by reducing the insulation in the walls making the house less efficient overall than it is at present.

Precisely why regulations are required across the economy. There are absolutely no benefits to ordinary people when profits are a motivating factor.

Have just been watching 'dirty business' on C4 adout the pollution instigated by water companies. It's very, very clear that regulation is a good thing and that standards are required, in this case ensuring insulation is not reduced by changing any necessary regulation.

I'd imagine costs will come down quite a lot, it's also been said without battery back up a lot will just be wasted.

It's ok if you are at home during the day.

The best way (the current way) is to reduce energy consumption before figuring out ways to generate it.

Heat pumps are pretty much standard on all houses now. So I will give credit to the government for legislating for something that's already standard practice.
