A lot of people calling the guy an idiot but ultimately it’s very likely he was mentally unwell.

I presume this was some kind of suicide act?

Poor bloke feeling so desperate if so and obviously horrific for those having to watch this tragic incident unfold in front of them.

It seems to have been a learning disability type one. He hand signed what apparently means naughty or I don’t like this in sign language. The suggestion is neurodivergent with a child mental age and not understanding the danger. He was dancing around and had photos taken with the Tiger in the background just before so maybe he wanted to play with it.

Obviously nobody knows yet but the general opinion is mental health in a learning disability type way that a depression and suicide way. Not a nice topic anyway and we can’t put ourselves in the shoes of someone with that level of depression wanting to end it but would anybody select that as a method?

I’m pleased the Tiger was unharmed and also that no third parties were caught in the middle if it was a mental health crisis (thinking the little boy thrown in the crocodiles a few months ago or even the Nottingham killer). But sad for the family of the man, sad for the park and its staff who do a wonderful job and for those on a day out who witnessed something so extreme and awful.

It’s unclear if he had carers with him but if he did, like with the crocodile incident in Cambridgeshire, what were they doing in all this?

Trump does things daily that in a pre-trump world would have been wall to wall media coverage. He has desensitised people to it. At least many Americans are waking up, his approval rating is awful. Hopefully he loses the midterms both house and Senate.

I bet he'll find away to claim voter fraud and the election is rigged.

The world is a sad demented place these days.

Seen a video of this, the Tiger showed restraint not to do worse to be fair!

As bad as the crocodile incident was around a couple of months ago, reckon this incident is worse because there's actual videos of the incident and wouldn't be surprised at all if anyone who knew him viewed any footage of the ordeal themselves.

The poor lad did seem to have some mental disability and didn't appear drunk at all.

You'd thought after the crocodile incident zoos across the country would've heightened its animal enclosure etc fences more.

Alongside obviously his death, what's also sad will be the family potentially facing backlash over why he wasn't more tightly supervised (if he was with family/carer etc).

So think there's going to be a lot more being revealed over this incident.

The narrative is already underway on that score and the attempts by him at voter suppression - though not outright provable rigging - are also out there.

The next few months will tell us a lot about the next direction of the US - and by extension, the rest of the world.

Apparently he had learning difficulties and was deaf. He was signing to the tiger to stop.

Such a sad incident. The people who were his carers at the site will have to live with that for the rest of their lives.

I think I tend to notice things that feel unsafe at these kind of places.

A couple of examples.

One at YWP itself, there is a viewing platform above the Leopard enclosure. When we were there last, a man had his young son sat on the edge and was holding him. It made me feel funny as all it takes is for the child to shuffle and their bum to slip and they could be over into there. I think they should address that.

The other was recently at Sealife in Scarborough. Where these places have the big main aquarium, we went up to the top and it was just open. It was after the crocodile incident and I just thought what if something similar happened and a child was picked up and dropped in there!

But honestly, the Tiger enclosure is not a risk. I know people who aren’t familiar with it will say ‘well clearly it is’. No, it’s got plenty of angled fences and distance from where people are. It’d take someone quite physically capable and fit to do what he did. You couldn’t fall in or push or throw someone in.

He wasn't deaf. He was talking to folks before hand, asking for photos to be taken and had his earbuds in.

It's all hearsay right now. Regardless of anything, the person made a decision to scale a high fence and jump from the viewing platform, sit in the enclosure and put his back to the animal. Just because he was seen sticking his finger up to it in a way that may be seen as telling it off doesn't mean he was. I fell into one of those bloody Yorkshite Live articles earler. Once I got through the ads I saw someone trying to claim he was signing makaton to him because he had "his hand out with his little finger, which means "bad"". I have seen the video. I couldn't tell you which finger he used to stick up to the tiger.

Guy made a choice to do that and it isn't simple to do what he did to get in there.

The US justice department (DoJ) has said it is investigating several TV networks over whether they broke federal competition laws when they recently suspended pool coverage of President Donald Trump.

Last month, five networks paused their presidential coverage for several days in response to the Trump administration withdrawing the credentials of reporters from CNN, MS Now and Politico.

The justice department asked ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and Fox News to hand over communications related to the pool and said that the boycott could violate the Sherman Act, referring to a law that bars companies from engaging in monopolistic business practices.

Pool members usually share their material with the wider media.

A DoJ spokesperson said: "The Antitrust Division is simply investigating to determine whether these news organisations have violated the antitrust laws."

Are the current administration really unhappy at the Chinese for their reasonably blatant inhibition of a fair few freedoms, including that of the press?

Or rather are they just pissed off at them because they're rather better and more effective at such things than the American leaders are and seemingly want to be?

Does that mean he has capacity under the MH act?  To have capacity you have to be able to understand the consequences of your actions/decisions.

I doubt he did.

And how remarkably predictable this progression has been.

There were warnings more than a decade ago about Trump, his supporters and the ideology governing them both.

On this score, was taking a trip down memory lane and looked up the thread published on here just after Trump won in 2016.

The amount of people saying it "wouldn't be that bad" or something along those lines, or even flat out stating it as a positive (some gone, some still here now, but I won't call out names) is remarkable.

Please do call out names and post some classic takes, I'm definitely petty enough but don't want to come across as a saddo. Maybe dig up some gems from the EU referendum thread too.

I doubt he did.

But if it comes out he was schizophrenic and not autistic, it becomes a different story under that MH act stuff. As someone who has some serious mental health issues, it always winds me up.
