The footage of him wagging his finger at the tiger to tell it to stop attacking him is particularly heartbreaking. At the very least it appears the man did not understand fully understand the risk of climbing into the enclosure, whether because of intellectual disability, autism or mental health issues.

I've been surprised at the callousness of many comments I've seen about this incident online. Clearly the man did not have the capacity to understand what he was doing, yet many people seem devoid of any sympathy for him. It's been a bit depressing.

Eh, I personally wouldn't rejoice at many people getting mauled to death by a tiger but I can understand some people thinking there's some Darwinian justice in it and not being overly sympathetic if they've just assumed it's some moron chav that's jumped in trying to be funny or because he thinks he can fight a tiger.

Which is the default assumption when you hear someone's leapt in an animal enclosure at a zoo isn't it these days? It's some idiot, probably someone recording it for TikTok clout as a "stunt" or whatever. That's the modern world.

If it's true it was a man with a learning disability that's gotten away from his carers and he was genuinely signing Makaton at the tiger to try and tell it to stop hurting him then that's obviously enormously heartbreaking and people continuing to laugh and be callous would be profoundly psychopathic but I haven't actually seen anyone laughing or sneering once they've been told that's the case.

Not that we actually know, do we? I've not seen a single official source name the victim and everything seems to be extremely shut down to protect their identity and their family.

Which, admittedly, does support the theory but it is still just that, isn't it, a social media theory?

https://news.sky.com/story/man-fatally-attacked-by-tiger-at-uk-wildlife-park-told-animal-to-stop-being-naughty-13598025

"According to eyewitnesses, the people around the enclosure were frantically telling the young man to "play dead" but he did not understand, and was telling the tiger to "stop being naughty".

One witness said the victim had been "by himself, dancing, with headphones in" moments earlier."

"We noticed the tiger's behaviour change. Its eyes locked on to something in the enclosure. We thought maybe he's getting fed. When Scarlett was taking photos - we suddenly saw in the camera lens that a guy had entered the enclosure", said Anthony.

The victim "bowed down, on all fours, started praying, and looking up at the sky", he said.

"The tiger was still on the landing at this point" but then "leapt off the landing, and sniffed the guy".

Anthony describes the victim as being almost "in a trance" and "not attached to reality".

Another witness, Alex Underwood, who had been visiting the wildlife park with his girlfriend, said the victim had asked his partner to take a picture of him shortly before he climbed into the enclosure.

"We were on the tiger bridge and I spotted him - he was dancing with his earphones on," Alex said.

"He said 'can you take a photo of me please?'. She [my girlfriend] said 'yes'. Then he said 'another one, another one'. He didn't look into the camera.

"He looked at us both and said thank you."

Alex, who said he left the bridge with his girlfriend soon after, added: "We heard someone had jumped in and thought of him for some reason."

Cyber attack on French supermarkets targets freezer temperatures and causes losses of millions euros

I assume that it’s not much of a leap for our infrastructure to be targeted in the same way ??

So simple I guess, and if you're so inclined, so effective

Digital supply and maintenence chains are always going to be at some kind of risk of this kind of attack.

Got to question why everything is connected to the internet now.

I think we will see a situation where more and more items start to be less 'smart'.

Its EU law for all cars to have sim cards, whilst simultaneously being concerned about Chinese vehicles having a kill switch.

I think we need a connectivity detox in our systems.

Can’t see why they can’t be ‘read only’  so you can be remote and notified of a problem whilst the system itself isn’t able to change anything.  (To clarify for some on here, if a system is purely monitoring and unable to affect then there is no risk that it can be hacked into and have settings altered).

Otherwise you’re losing too many of the advantages

The reality is that this is how cyber warfare will playout...

Turn the freezers off

Put all traffic lights on red (or worse, green)

Target hospital equipment

Take down cellular networks

Flick the power on and off

Our world is unbelievably connected.  It's unfathomable to most people exactly how much we rely on this digital connectivity.  Switch it off and we wouldn't know what to do.

Documentary on BBC2 right now about people in Alberta who want independence from Canada. Had no idea that was a thing.

It is, but it's mostly being artificially inflated by the kind of trolls who have thankfully been inhibited recently, and also rabble rousing from TangerineFelon#47 and his group of flying monkeys down south.

Those in Alberta (and in the rest of Canada) possessed of at least some sanity know what the current score is and who the real opposition to any good kind of future for them is.

Canada is a collection of provinces and territories (that were colonised) under one flag, each would probably have a strong independence movement, much like the UK countries, much like Spain.

Time for the marines to use lethal force against the small boats apparently.

Well, if that does come to pass, I look forward to one day seeing Mr Jenrick in the dock at The Hague for the obvious violation of more than one international law and convention.

How does saying this not mean immediate sacking, reputation damage and years of being told what an utter scumbag you are?

Because a significant proportion of the population would support such actions sadly. To be fair, the PM tore him apart in parliament today.

Hey Robbie, I have a great idea.

You could row out to them and video yourself on your mobile phone pointing out that what they're doing is breaking the law and attempt to perform a citizen's arrest, which you could then upload to social media.

You know you want to.

Guy made a choice to do that and it isn't simple to do what he did to get in there.

*Enter the Zoo inspector*

There is no way the park could be at fault for this.

Zoos are inspected yearly by the Local Authority, with every three years being an inspection with Government appointed vets/persons with masses of zoo direction knowledge.

Whether or not the chap had the capacity to realise what he was doing or not, he was compelled to undertake an act that would have taken cinsiderable effort in breaching the enclosure cordon.

Thos whole thing is very sad, but, unless mental aptitude test are an entry requirement, they will always happen.

I've got a bottle of Moet chilling ready for my imminent birthday.

They'd better leave my fridge alone. Bastards.

Ya, Alberta is going nowhere. This is all nonsense.

Do provinces have grievances? Of course!  I think as a nation we can figure them out and be fair, equitable as best as we can. Its the Canadian way.

IMO, some of those Alberta separatists should be tried for treason for going to the states to discuss shit with senior US politicians when they had 0 mandate to do so. Tossers.

When govt introduced their vat changes to private education, they estimated a drop of 14000 by year 2.  Actual figure is 30000,

OBR predicted a long term drop of 35k.

I guess at least we should see a slight rise in state school performance !
